Sorry this chapter is shorter than I had hoped.
What do you guys think, is Mark right?
Hope you are enjoying this book!
________________________________________________________________I struggled to lift my heavy eyelids open, my arms and legs are sore from who knows what. I ripped my earbuds out of my aching ears and lifted my tired head off the pillow.
I shuffled to my feet and across the floor to the locked door, I twisted the golden doorknob and pushed the door open.
The air in the house was thick and humid, I took a deep breath then made my way down the creaky staircase.
I walked through the hall and into the kitchen, I was shocked to see Alexander in front of the stove struggling with pancakes.
"Good morning sweetie." He said turning around and smiling.
"Hello." I said plainly as I sat down at the small breakfast table.
"I made you pancakes!" He said excitedly pulling the pan off the stove and putting a few pancakes onto a plate, "I hope there okay."
I gave him a smile, I wanted to ask him about the story or about Murphy but I was being stupid. Murphy is just a little odd and Mark is stupid. I said reassuring myself.
I filled my nose with the sweet sent of syrup as I opened a bottled sitting in front of me, "You seem to be felling well." I said pouring out sticky syrup from the messy bottle.
"Oh yes!" Alexanders childish voice squeaked, "I think I am getting much better." He said as he carefully lifted a chair out from under the table and cautiously sat down.
"Thats good!" I said as I cut my pancakes with the edge of my fork the piled a few pieces into my mouth.
After a few minuets of nothing but forks clanging against our plates Alexander broke the silence, "Eleanor." He said catching my attention, "I think I am ready for you to have friends over." He said keeping his breaths steady.
My jaw dropped and my heart burst, "Really!" I said dropping my fork and jumping to my feet.
"Well yeah, thats what I just said." He said looking down at his plate then at me then standing up. "I really want you to have a normal childhood and I have been trying really hard for you."
I felt my smile grow across my face as I ran up to him and gave him a hug, "Thank you dad." I said as I pulled away.
He looked at me with a smile to match mine, "Im trying." He repeated as he turned to the table. "You are free to do whatever it is that you do." He said waving me off as he scooped up the sticky plates.
Without even bothering to change I ran to the front door but was stopped, Murphy was standing in my way with a forced smile.
"I heard that dad is letting you have friends over." She said through gritted teeth and a fake smile.
I bit down on my cheek and rubbed my arm, "Yeah," I felt my stomach twisting into knots as I stood in front of her, "tomorrow."
"But what about me, am I not enough." She said holding her forced smile.
"Of corse not Murph." I said nervously, "I love you but sometimes I want to have other friends." Before she could reply I pushed her out of the way. And ran out the door.
I slammed the door shut and rushed over to my bike, I didn't realize I wasn't wearing shoes until my bare feet hit the textured plastic of my bike pedals. I gasped in shock but ignored it, there is no way I am going back in there. Not right now.
