A pounding sensation in my head welcomed me as I woke up, all my muscles ached and cried out in pain. I lifted my head from the cold floor it was on and looked around, the room is dark but there is a damp light fighting its way through the oppressing darkness that erupts from each corner.
My awareness kicks in and I freeze, where is Murphy. My body tenses up at the thought of her dragging me away to who knows where. I scan the room looking for any sign on her, after a quick look I figure this is her room. Her princess canopy bed is torn, with chips and cuts in the wood. Her white desk has been knocked over and papers thrown everywhere, the white paint chipped and small pieces cover the floor.
The rain forest wall paper is torn, symbols and writings are there instead. Most the symbols I don't under stand, but there are words I can read clear as day.
DONT LEAVE ME
I WONT DO IT
PLEASE STOP
THE VOICES TOLD ME TO
IM SORRY
RUN
GET AWAY AND NEVER LOOK BACK
THEY TOLD ME TO
I WONT
DONT LEAVE ME
Each word carved into the wall, sending chills down my spine with each letter. What does she mean? My eyes left the wall and scanned the floors again, I looked three times over but I am alone in here. Why would she take me just to leave me here, unguarded, and able to escape.
Stunning silence had taken over the room as I sat here, it was so quiet I could hear my eyes move when I looked around. I need to get out of here.
Now that I know Murphy isn't in here I can look for a way out. I have never been in her room before and don't know whats in here.
Slowly I shift into an upright position before I sat up fully. I placed my hands on the cold wall to help me stand.
I took a closer look at things scattered in the room, something shiny in a pile of torn blankets caught my eye. I crept over to the dingy pile and looked it over, something was sitting just under the first blanket.
I picked up the torn and tattered sheet and tossed it aside, there was the shiny object, a key. I wrapped my fingers around the cold metal and stood up. The key was small and had the numbers 302 engraved onto it, just like the key for the dumbwaiter in the kitchen.
My heart raced as I searched the walls for the small metal door, hoping to find it. There it was, it was hidden in the darkest corner of the room, but the small red and green buttons led me right to it.
The small metal door was already unlocked so the key was unimportant, but I can lock it and take the key so she can't use it anymore.
The small light inside still worked and filled the small space easily, I looked over the buttons and it appeared it only goes up. That would take me to Alexander, not really where I want to go but at least its away from here.
I climbed into the cabinet like space and shut the door, it smelled like food and made me hungry. I haven't eaten in a while but Ill be fine.
I pushed the green button that made it move, I felt the machine start to work as I ascended upward.
The moving stopped and the red light went dark, informing me that its safe to get out. The small door was easily pushed open with little effort, but its the getting out that's hard.
Once I managed to get to my feet I shut and locked the door, meaning no one can use it now.
I looked around, I was definitely in Alexanders room. It was not much more than an attic but the ceilings were higher so one could easily stand up straight.
I began making my way to the major part of the attic where Alexander will probably be.
I turned the corner and saw him at his desk like he always is, "Alexander." I said softly.
"Who!" He shouted as he jumped from his chair. "Eleanor," He put his hand over his heart to calm himself down, "you scared me."
"Sorry to interrupt," I started when I thought, maybe I should tell him about Murphy, "but Murphy is acting strange."
He gave me an odd look, "Sweetie I know you have a hard time with friends but aren't you a little old to still have your imaginary friend?" He changed his look to a sympathetic one, his tone of voice was soft.
I didn't know what to say, what does he mean 'imaginary' "No, dad. Murphy is real, well no shes not. You see we think shes a ghost." I blurted out without thinking.
This made Alexander uneasy, he looked worried, "Say,what does she look like?" He said nervously.
"She used to be about nine with long black hair and big eyes and very pale." I told him, confused as to why that matters.
"Melissa." He whispered.
"She told me about this girl named Melissa once." I told him.
He let out a sigh and sat down, "Eleanor there is a few things I should tell you."
"What?"
