Rose gawked up at Edwardus who stood next to her glaring at his mother.
"Um, he doesn't mean that" she said turning to his mother suddenly feeling nervous. "You don't mean that" she said turning to him.
"Yes Rose, I do"
"But Edwardus"
"End of discussion"
She snapped her mouth shut and sent him a mock salute that had him turning to her with amusement dancing in his eyes.
"Are you insane?" The queen finally spoke up.
Rose turned to her just as she slowly got up and walked over to them. She felt Edwardus reach for her hand and gently pulled up to stand behind him.
OKstrange. Whatisshegoingtodopunchme?
"I forbid this!" She said angrily.
"Well mother you don't exactly have a say in this do you?"
"You are behaving like a child!"
"No mother that's where you're wrong. I was a man who was always treated like a child so I in turn behaved like one. Now that I've seen the err of my ways I see its time I behave like a man and put away childish things. I can start by downing what's best for me and my child. Something you wouldn't understand"
Rose's eyes grew bigger as she listened to the exchange between mother and child. Her heart swelled with pride to see him finally standing up for himself. She couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt though.
"Do you know what's going to happen if you walk away from your royal duties!?"
"Honestly mother, I don't care. Why give up my life, my happiness, my freedom for all this. Between you and the media you make being a royal a living nightmare for me. Why would I choose to be king?"
Rose didn't wait for the queen to respond. Instead she jumped in.
"Because you're a good man. Helping others makes you happy. You were born to do this, not because you're a prince I mean because its who you are. I know you'll be a wonderful father but I also know you'll be a great king, because of the man you are I know you'll never be at peace if you were to walk away and sit and watch the kingdom fall"
He was looking at her. She saw the different emotions crossing his face, she could tell he was feeling conflicted.
"Rose..."
"Edwardus"
She gently tugged on his hand to make him look at her when he glanced away from her pleading expression.
"I'll think about it" he replied
"That's all I'm asking" said Rose giving his hand a comforting squeeze.
