Rose had gotten bored while Edwardus was at work so she decides to go for a walk. That had turned out to be a bad idea because as soon as she stepped outside, the paparazzi, hungry for their next story had swarmed her. Lucky for her bodyguards had come out of no where to ward off the swarm of media hungry vipers.
She paced around the living room contemplating whether or not she should try leaving through a back exit. She desperately wanted out if the apartment because she was so close to pulling out her hair in boredom.
Just as she made up her mind to leave the was a knock on the door. After the last unexpected visitor she had she very much wanted to ignore whoever was at the door in hope that they would go away. However three more insistent knocks sounded causing her to sign and walk to the door and pull it open.
Standing before her was a sourly face man dressed in a black suite and a crisp white shirt. He had a ear piece in his left ear.
"May I help you?" She asked trying not to sound as confused as she was feeling.
"The queen as requested a sitting with you at the palace"
"Excuse me?"
"The queen has requested for you to..."
"I heard you the first time. Why would she want to see me?"
The man gave her a look as though she had asked him a stupid question.
"You're carrying a royal heir ma'am. First grandchild to the thrown. Naturally her majesty would want to meet you"
"Oh I see."
When he glanced at the watch on his wrist then back at her face realized he intended for her to go with him now.
"She wants to see me now?"
"Yes miss"
Rose sighed then rushed back inside to scribble a quick note to Edward. She grabbed her purse and followed the man outside to a limo which she was not surprised to see. The ride to the palace was about a hour long ride and Rose had started to regret not taking along a snack and something to drink as she felt hunger slowly creeping up on her.
Before she could have asked how much longer they would drive, the limo slowed and came to a stop outside two enormous golden gates. The gates slowly opened allowing them to enter and Rose couldn't help but to admire the well kept edges and tress as they drove up the long driveway that lead to the palace. The palace itself took her breath away. It was modern yet had a ancient feel. As she sat there admiring the view, the driver came around and opened the door and offered her his hand to help her climb out.
The same man that delivered the message to her came and stood next to her then indicated that she should follow him. She followed him along some long corridors with beautiful paintings hung on the walls. She noticed workers hurrying by without so much as glancing at them. She was about to ask are we there yet? But stopped and had to catch herself before she bumped into the man that had come to a sudden stop outside some wooden doors.
Why does all the gates and doors have to be so huge.
After knocking and getting the response to enter. The man lead her into what appeared to be a lounge of some sort. The room was feminine and elegant. The color scheme very delicate with painting as equally beautiful like the ones she had seen before.
"Your majesty, this is Ms. Rose. Stevens" the man introduced with a bow.
"Thank you Nathaniel"
So the man does have a name.
"Ms. Rose. We finally meet"
"Lovely to meet you, your majesty"
Rose did a perfect curtsy that surprised the queen as much as she surprised herself. She sent up a silent thank you prayer for the little knowledge she had gained about Royalty from The Prince And Me movie she had seen.
The queen sat then invited her to have a seat. She sank onto the soft comfortable chair and resisted the sigh that threatened to escape her lips.
"May I offer you something to drink Ms. Stevens?"
"A glass of orange juice would be lovely thank you"
She watched as the queen indicated to a maid standing nearby to serve them some refreshments. During that time, Rose took the time to quickly study the queens features. It was hard to tell her age for she was one of those women that aged gracefully. Wrinkle were barely visible and minimum strands of hair was just beginning to gray. The light blue pant suite she wore was made to perfection.
"So Rose, it seems your presence here has caused a great upset for the future of our dear kingdom"
"With all due respect your majesty I don't see why that's the case"
"Of course you don't. If you were of royal blood you would know that such things as a prince, the future king getting his mistress pregnant does not sit well for the image of the throne"
"I am not Edward's mistress!"
"See I told you she has no respect for us. Listen to the way she's addressing you the queen"
Rose turned to see Tabitha emerge from a door in the corner of the room.
"Princess Tabitha I told you to let me handle the matter!" The queen stated
"I'm sorry your majesty"
Rose looked from one woman to the other in confusion. She lowered her half drunken glass of orange juice to turn fully and face the queen.
"With all due respect, your majesty I'm not a matter to be handled."
"Of course you wouldn't think so. If you're to remain here it would look bad on the kingdom. It might also interfere with the treaty if you're to stick around for I am almost certain my son has his head in the clouds and would foolishly choose you over the princess."
"That's where you're wrong mother!"
Rose turned at the sound of Edwardus marching into the room. The maid bowed and stepped away to stand in the corner. Even Tabitha looked shaken by the angry look on his face. Rose however noticed that the queen sat with an unwavering composure. When he turned to her Rose realized she was finally seeing him not as Edward her lover and friend, she was seeing him as Edwardus the prince, future king to the thrown. She almost lowered her head in a tiny bow out of respect until she saw the frown that crossed his face at her action. He walked over to her and took her hand and brought her to stand next to him. Rose had eyes only for him. Everyone else in the room was pushed to the back of her mind as she stood there staring at him in his princely form.
"You brought the mother of my child here to try to intimidate her. Not knowing she is a woman that is not easily intimidated." He turned to Tabitha with a look of scorn. "And you. You say she has no respect for royalty when in fact it is royalty that needs to learn to show others respect! You could learn a thing or two from her. Maybe that's why she the one carrying my child and not you"
Rose saw the princesses mouth fall open in shock and she had to catch herself before she did the same thing.
"You're wrong mother. I'm not just choosing her over the princess, I'm choosing her over the throne!"
At that point everyone's mouth including hers and the quiet maid in the corner, mouth fell open in total and complete shock.
