Edwardus dropped his briefcase by the door and rushed over to inspect her hand. What he didn't expect was for her to pull away from him as though his touch offended her.
"Rose what's going on?"
He wanted to reach and pull her back to him when she turned away to walk to the sink.
"Leave those, you'll only get your bandage wet."
"I'll just have to rewrap it then"
"Rose what is going on!?"
"Nothing"
"Then why are you acting as though I've offended you? I've been calling all day and you didn't even bother to answer the phone. I rushed home thinking something might have happened and obviously something did."
Before he could say anything else his phone rang. He answered it without taking his eyes off of her. The more he listened, the angrier he became. He hung up and tossed his phone on the table and walked over to Rose and turned her to face him.
"What did Tabitha say to you!?"
"That was her on the phone then?"
"That was my mother. What did Tabitha say Rose!?"
"Nothing I didn't already suspect."
"You're going to have to break that down just a little bit more"
"She made sure to let me know my place in your life. She told me how I'm expected to behave and also made sure to let me know my bastard child and I will never come between you and her."
"She said what!?"
He saw her jump in fright and he had to force himself to calm down.
"And you actually believed what she said?" He asked shaking his head.
"She said if you don't marry her your country is doomed. Was that true?"
"Rose..."
"Is it true or not?"
"Yes its true but I'll find another way Rose."
"Did you intend to make me your mistress?"
"Rose how can you even ask me that?"
"How can I not!?"
"You don't trust me do you? That's why it was so easy to believe everything Tabitha said to you"
"Its not easy to trust you when you're not telling me the full story here! I may not like the woman for obvious reasons but she's the only one that's enlightened the darkness you've left me in."
"I didn't tell you every detail because I didn't need you worry about things that I should be the one worrying about. I told you I'll fix this"
"How?"
"I don't know alright!? But I'll fix this"
She walked to the counch and sat down and he followed her like a lost puppy. She put her head back and closed her eyes so he reached for her foot and started to give her a massage. The soft moaning and sounds of pleasure coming from her lips was doing other things to his body but he quickly pushed that aside because he knew that couldn't always be the answer to their problems. No matter how mind blowing making love to her was.
"What did your mother have to say about all this?"
"I'm afraid my mother isn't the nicest person you'll come across."
"In other words she doesn't like me?"
"She doesn't know you dulce anima"
He could see on her face that she was feeling overwhelmed by the sudden change of events and he desperately wanted to find a way to ease her worries. He knew it wasn't easy to take her from her regular life and expect her to suddenly adjust to dating a prince.

"Rose?"
"Hmm?" She replied distracted by the pleasure she was receiving from his foot massage. He purposely stopped his action and almost smed when she opened one eye to glare at him. The action was as awkward as it was funny which caused him to chuckle.
"Would you like to have dinner with me?"
"Sure. I'll cook something. What do you feel like having?"
He smiled and shook his head.
"I meant would you like to go out with me to have dinner at a restaurant"
"Like a date?"
"Yes a date"
"I'd like that very much, but I'm afraid I've run out of clothes to wear. I didn't plan on staying pass three days so I didn't pack much"
"That's no problem. I'll have some clothes brought to you right away"
Before he could get up to reach his phone she reached our and held his hand and signalled to him to sit back down.
"I know you're trying to make me feel better but you don't need to shower me with gifts to do that"
"Its just clothes Rose, please allow me to do this"
"No Edwardus"
He sat back and folded his hand. His next move made him feel silly but he was sure it would do the trick. He stuck his bottom lip out in an adorable pout that made her erupt in a fit of giggles.
"OK fine. You can buy me clothes"
"Yes!" He pumped his fist in the air and dashed for his phone. He rattled off orders of her size and what exactly he was liking for and ordered that the garments be delivered within the next hour.
He was glad Rose agreed to let him clean up the broken pieces of glass which he learned she had tossed against the door after Tabitha offended her. He almost wished it had knocked the princess instead of the door but he knew that would just be asking for more trouble.
In the next hour clothes were delivered for Rose which of course she began to protest until he started pouting again and in no time they had showered and gotten dressed for their first official date.
They shared, a quiet evening at a restaurant by the seaside and in no time they had started to share more information about themselves more than they did in the two months they had known each other. Edwardus began to see exactly why he had fallen so fast for her. She gave him a brighter and better outlook on life. She also saw him the man before him the prince unlike everyone else around him. She laughed at his jokes which his sister Elizabeth had told him wasn't funny at all. He spent that evening feeling more relaxed than he has felt since he was forced to return home. He could tell Rose had started to relax too and he only hoped he could keep her that way.
