nightlight | prologue
It's been an hour since the realtor left to let me explore the expanse of this somewhat creepy house. It was lovely, really, with its victorian-style looking exterior and its very cozy interior design. But the atmosphere was almost terrifying as you can hear no sound at all, just the droplets from the faucet in the kitchen. It was very quiet, but I assumed it was just really peaceful in this neighbourhood and, well, of course, since no one's living in here.
I've been to all the rooms on the ground floor, and it was quite massive than what I expected. I only expected average-sized, or maybe small-sized bedrooms, but what I got got me beyond my expectations. I was really lucky to bait in this house, a massive house indeed, in spite of its somewhat cheap price.
The floors of the stairs creaked as I started going to the second level of the house. The second level, though, only has the master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom in it, a storage room, a closet, and a massive porch that will give you a great view of the city, as what the realtor said. I wonder, why is this house sold for an affordable price, and why is it not sold yet, when it has an amazing view with the architecture of the house as a bonus?
Not even planning on checking the rooms anymore, I went straight to the porch, which is just across the top of the stairs. I got excited of the thought of seeing the city lights, remembering the fact that the sun had just set. I'm already imagining seeing the beautiful city lights, the wind that would send my curls flying and dancing with it, the twinkling stars, the overview of everything in the town. I barely even noticed I have reached the wide and tall french doors leading to the porch that had gotten me excited.
I opened the door really carefully, scared that the hinges might be stucked or something. Luckily it wasn't, making it easier for me to open the doors.
Sure enough, I was greeted by a gust of wind, it was cold, and it was calming. I closed my eyes, inhaling and relaxing into the new feeling.
I, once again, opened my eyes, a figure leaning on the rail catching my eye. As much as I can remember, I'm the only one in here?
Due to my curiousity, I slowly walked towards the figure, which so happens to be a girl, my actions slow yet very hesitant. Once I reached her, I tapped her shoulder, only to fail.
My finger was not even able to touch her shoulder, it passed through.
My eyes widened as she turned around to face me. It couldn't be. Could she be, could she be a-
"Hey." She greeted, sending me a warm smile, in contrast to the temperature of the wind.
I wasn't able to form words, heck, I can't even say a simple 'hello', instead, my jaw hung open at the sight infront of me, along with my eyes probably wide as distance.
I tried tapping her shoulder once more, only to fail again. I rubbed my eyes, trying to snap me out from my imagination or maybe my dream.
But this is not a dream.
She has, indeed, beautiful features. Everything fitted perfectly- oh god she was perfect. She is naturally beautiful, especially with the smile that warmed my heart. But then, my mind knocked on my heart, snapping me back to reality.
Was she really a gh-
And as if on cue, her beautiful smile faded, looking at her toes and finally saying something, as if she just read my thoughts.
"Go scream, run and leave like everyone does, human." She softly said with her sweet voice as she once again turned around, looking at the expanse of the city now surrounded by different colors of lights.
Heck, I was too intrigued and fascinated by her beauty that I wasn't able to look at the city lights I've always loved.
With her head bowed down, my heart sent sympathy and pity towards her. And it was weirdly fluttering at the sight- long hair blown by the wind, along with her long, thin and silky lilac dress and the nightlight illuminating her pale skin. If only it was just my first time seeing her, I would've thought of her as a gorgeous human being, which is clearly not. There's just something in me that dragged my heart and soul towards this girl- or should I say ghost.
Normally, people would do what she just said- scream, run and leave. My mind tells me to, but my heart overtook my senses as I slowly walked nearer towards her, putting my hand carefully on her non-existent shoulder.
Well I guess I'm not normal at all.
