"I'm self-defined. Can't you tell that I'm a stupid punk who cares about myself and nobody else?" Luke asked as he lit his plain cig. I rolled my eyes and rested my head between my palms.
"That's not true. You can't make people put things like that in your mind." I replied, as he groaned and blew out a ball of smoke that soon dissipated into the atmosphere.
"Okay, then what about you? Don't you think you're depressed but you're really not? Didn't your father put that in your head?" He asked, inhaling more of his cigarette.
I looked out into the atmosphere, trying to ignore the truth that came out of his mouth. The stars glistened, contrasting the clear blue skies above us, creating a beautiful scenery that was clear enough to be a painting. It looked so surreal, it was impossible to think that we still had light pollution.
I heard him sigh, and I soon saw him throw his cigarette on the grass below us.
"Sorry if I upset you or something." he apologized, for probably the first time ever in his life. I looked at him with wide eyes, and he smiled weakly before hopping off the hood of his car to go inside.
"Time to get you home, daddy might think you went off to cut yourself." he remarked, making my eyes well up. He could go from sweet and sympathetic to a hateful and bitter person within seconds. I hated that about him- I just wanted to be there to experience the true Luke. Maybe that's why I kept sticking around.
