"We had run from the lust for far too long and now it devoured us."

PRESENT DAY

I was on top of the bridge, alone, and the city miles away; the moonlight reflecting within my eyes, the cold wind embracing my shoulders and time stood still. The moon was full, bright and alive once more, reminding me of what once was. Yet, the moon's glow wasn't enough to suffice the darkness surrounding my heart. In the distance, the owls kept me company, singing through the night. I had been here before, but tonight it was different; colder, lonelier.

I had done a full circle, two years of running, only to fall back into the same place, because I could never flee from the way he made me feel. I searched hopelessly for the emerald eyes, awaiting the passion that warmed my heart, and reminiscing about what would have been. But I was far too late.

It was ten past twelve and the hope within my heart was the last to die. I closed my eyes, wondering if perhaps I would open them to see his eyes once more. But all I had was the memory of the night, the magical dream, before reality came crashing down. The moon hypnotizing me, I couldn't move. My feet were glued to the concrete.

I lost track of time; my body spread on the bridge, counting the stars. The minutes passed by, the hope diminished, and the moon swept farther away, lost in the distance. I could not speak, nor could I mutter a word. I could only breathe. The tears wouldn't fall and the pain in my chest subsided. I was completely numb. I knew the answer for which I had been waiting so long.

It had been a sweet, thrilling and consuming love. Now, it was all but a story, a tragedy.

All I could do now was run- far away. I rushed down the steps, away from the bridge where I had lost it all, numb. My feet picked up the pace, needing to be free of the past; the sweat pouring down my back, relieving me and my breaths rapid and frantic attempting to forget. I could not stop running in circles, searching for a place to begin. I knew, the moment I stop, the world would come crashing down.

The sun would begin to rise soon and I had to stop. I had to be far away from this town before the morning sun came up. I could not face the grips of what I had lost. All I could feel was the numbness. I ran to the car, to take me away to a new city.

But when I reached the parking lot, I wasn't alone anymore.

The emerald eyed man who owned every part of my heart was there.

I froze, my body paralyzed under his intense stare. I stood at a distance, safe and sheltered from the knives that were his words. He was more than a few hours late and I had been numb to his deception. Perhaps, I had given up on our story.

"We need to talk." His husky voice cut the ice between us.

My eyes narrowed in disbelief and I remained silently unamiable. Time had changed everything between us. He took one step closer while I took two steps back. He let out a deep sigh attempting to find the words. It was a little too late. I had been anesthetized.

"Lana..." He endeavored, reaching for my cold hands.

"No." I desperately pushed his body away from mine and angrily roared, "I'm done playing fucking games with you, Harry."

"I'm not playing games either."

"I waited for you, for so fucking long." I screeched.

"I know." He spoke calmly.

My blood boiled and my skin thick. "'I know'?" I rolled my eyes in disbelief. "That's all you have to say? Goodbye, Harry." I announced, before pushing past him to the car door.
