Evan squeaked, flinching solely from surprise, which made Connor's face shift into a slight frown.

"Woah, dude, did I seriously scare you already?"

He raised an eyebrow, and Evan's face flushed. Connor Murphey was not a regular student- he was rumored to be your friendly neighborhood psychopath, and Jared's favorite nickname for him was 'School Shooter Chic'. Of course, Evan didn't like judging a book by its cover, but Connor didn't exactly act extremely positive in the first place...

"What happened to your arm?" Connor peered at him curiously, still holding the letter in his hand. Evan gulped.

"Uh- I, um, I fell, like out of a tree when I was on summer vacation, it was this like 40 foot oak tree,, I mean, not to brag but I was chosen to be, a, um, park ranger because I know so much about trees but I guess I just fell,, kind of, like right down there,,"

Connor nodded, mumbling something that sounded vaguely like "mhm" and eyeing his cast for a moment.

"Nobody's signed your cast..?"

"Oh, oh yeah see thats because, well-"

"Come on, dude, you don't have to explain it." He chuckled in a way that Evan didn't know Connor Murphy could chuckle, and smiled a small kind of smile that he was sure not many people had seen before. Mostly because every time someone interacted with Connor, they were talking about him in what his mom would call a 'not-so-nice way'.

"Well, do you have a sharpie? I can be the first one to, um, sign it for you."

Evan quickly took the sharpie out of his pocket, handing it to Connor gingerly. He caught himself cringing when Connor scribbled his name in huge, lopsided handwriting all over the entire cast.

"Gee, thanks Connor...."

He simply shrugged.

"Whatever, I found this one the printer. It's yours, right? Is says your name on it, 'Evan Hansen'.."

Connor squinted at the letter, making Evan jump to his feet to try and retrieve it. Connor only held it up above his head, using his obvious height difference.

"H-hey!,, Don't read that it's mine and I really need it because if I don't have it then my mom's gonna freak and I'll have to write another one and I really  don't like writing those so can you please just..."

Evan's voice trailed off when he realized that Connor was already reading it, his initial look of comprehension being replaced with anger. Not a good sign.

"Wait... is this about my sister? 'all my hope is pinned on zoe'? Is this some kind of pervy fucking letter you wrote about my sister?"

Evan shook his head and opened his mouth to protest before being cut off by Connor

"No, seriously, what the fuck is this? Did you... did you print this knowing that I would find it? I'm the only damn one in the computer lab apart from you so obviously I'd find it, then when I blow up at the creepy shit you wrote about Zoe, you'd tell the whole fucking school about how much of a freak I am-"

"No! I'd- I don't even- that's not what that letter's for!"

Connor glared at Evan for what felt like a long time, the crumpled up the letter and shoved it into his pocket, turning on his heel and running out of the computer lab.

Holy shit

HOLY SHIT
