"I don't understand why I am even here," I muttered as I stepped off of the helicopter.

My feet hit the hard metal floor of the ship, clinking against my heel with every step. Agent Sitwell quietly followed behind, his head hanging down. I could tell he felt nervous, though I could not figure out why.

"I don't know why either," he spoke, picking up his pace to cut in front of me. "I need to take care of business. Just enjoy the ship."

I jogged my way to the door he was about to enter. As he opened the door, I pressed my hand against it and pushed on it until it closed.

I shook my head at him. "I was given orders to stay at your side and I don't want Fury on my ass if anything happens to you while you're out of my sight."

He let out a groan, but stepped back and allowed me to open the door and step through. "What would happen to me anyway? We're on a SHIELD ship, for crying out loud."

"Trust me, I don't want to be here just as much as you don't want me here."

Sitwell brushed past me to lead the way to the business he had to take care of. We weaved our way through corridors and doors and the whole time I could only wonder why everything was so complicated for a launch ship.

We arrived to a door in the lower level of the ship labeled Analytics.

Before opening the door, Sitwell turned to me and said, "You can't be in here. It's important business and you're not cleared to be in the loop about it."

I rolled my eyes and nodded. "I understand. Now go on, I'll be outside. Just yell if you need anything."

I stood there for what seemed like hours. When I was finally tired of standing, I literally sat down on the floor and began to fall asleep.

Silly me for thinking that this assignment would be completely normal.

The emergency alarm blared, immediately jolting a wave of energy through me. It wasn't just a regular alarm, it was the alarm every ship has to warn the people on board of an attack.

I cursed under my breath, knowing this ship is full of technicians and barely anyone who is able to defend. It was supposed to be undetectable, adding an extra layer of security.

Sitwell quickly exited the room, along with another man who seemed familiar. I didn't spend any time trying to remember who he was, as I was preoccupied with finding out what was going on.

"They're attacking!" an agent yelled, turning the corner.

I stopped him and asked, "Who is?"

"No one knows. It's a group of pirates," he answered, turning his head quickly. "They're coming!"

A mass of heavy footsteps made its way down the hall. I pushed the agent behind me and quickly armed myself.

"Stay behind me, got it?" I ordered, glancing at the three men. They nodded and made sure to keep their distance from me.

One man turned the corner and I was able to take him down. One more followed closely and I had to subdue him as well.

The four of us had to make our way through the corridor without being detected. Once the floor was clear I grabbed a satellite phone from the hall and dialed the headquarters.

"Agent Jennings, badge number A092578. I'm on the Lemurian Star and we are under attack by pirates. I'm engaging with the threat but am working alone. Send backup."
