Hey blue eyes!
What's happening today?
My cute angel, I know you can't talk.
But I want you to understand.
Your heritage is the same as your sisters.
You have the blood of powerful African women & strong white women flowing through your veins.
Your skin is fair, your eyes are blue, your curls are loose & free.
Protect your older sister.
Her skin is dark, her eyes are brown, her hair is cooled & kinky.
I know you don't understand, but you need to know you & your sister will walk different paths because of the amount of melanin in your skin.
Protect your sister
I know she's bigger. But she needs your privilege.
My beautiful baby, genetics are funny
I don't know how it happened how it did.
But you & your sister, identical as you are in your features,
Will be looked at different because of the color of your skin.
You are beautiful & I know you'll be strong.
Protect your sister please, my blue eyed girl.

Healing Through Poetry
PuisiA collection of poems I've written over the past two years... they may not be 100% in order; I apologize. There are poems about abuse & sexual assault but I will put trigger warnings in front of those. These are poems about my life.
