C H A P T E R | THIRTY-NINE
STRANGERDESTINI looked through the numerous credit card receipts, bank statements, and all other financial documents, her entire flight seeing only two names - - the constant transfer of funds between Carter Ryan Mekhi and a woman named Stoni Flores. When Destini first found all of this information she couldn't believe her eyes and she'd gone so far as calling the credit card company and telling them that obviously something wasn't right.
When she did that she only found more embarrassment - - finding out that the money that Carter was spending on Stoni went further than just six months; he had been spending on her for a while now. Extravagant amounts spent on gowns, heels, furs, and the most outstanding, college tuition at two different school's - - Julliard and France's premier performing arts university.
When she saw all those things she felt as if she couldn't breathe and then she was numb. Oddly numb - - she didn't cry, she just stood there in the kitchen contemplating what the fuck she was going to do to him when he walked in the door. Then it hit her and she resolved to nothing. She had believed everything that Carter had told her in the past few years and the recent months. Aiko came out of nowhere claiming that she was pregnant and that Carter was the father of her baby and Carter swore - - he looked into Destini's eyes and told her that Aiko was mentally crazy if she thought he was the father of her child.
He was so convincing that Destini was convinced that he had to be telling the truth because Carter was facing too much jail time right now and wasn't that stupid enough to fuck with a woman that Destini had personally whipped in the middle of the street. Carter couldn't have been that crazy so it all had to be lies and when they got the paternity results from the court soon it would prove just how crazy Aiko was. She believed Carter when he told her months ago that Aiko's baby threat was preposterous - - he wouldn't go out and have some other woman's baby on her - - he wouldn't.
Destini believed he had more sense than that but when she found out about this Stoni character she didn't know what Carter was capable of anymore or what she was capable of either anymore.
So, she chartered a private flight and sat back dressed in her finest sipping Dom Perignon from a long stemmed flute glass and watching the scenery below her. She closed her eyes ever so often and attempted to sleep here and there but to no avail - - she always awoke with thoughts of Carter with this other woman and not knowing what to think of her or whatever it was she and Carter seemed to have. She wasn't just some fuck to Carter obviously because she had hung around for a while. Perhaps she had something on Carter that could ruin him - - dirt that would shatter his world - - heaven only knew, thought Destini as she sat on that plane shaking her head and losing most of her mind.
"Mrs. Mekhi," the flight attendant came up to her and tapped her shoulder, "We will be landing in Paris, France in about fifteen minutes," said the polite woman, "Would you like a hot towel?"
"No thank you," Destini said and turning away from the other help getting her Louis Vuitton luggage out of storage to be carried away when they landed. She wrung her hands out, anxiously, angrily and perhaps nervously.
When the plane landed her luggage was taken and put into the trunk of a black Aston Martin and she was taken promptly to her hotel - - one of the best hotels in France that money could buy. She unwound, took off her clothes, ate fine filet mignon alone in her presidential suite, showered and that night she cried and she promised herself she wouldn't shed any more tears over the fact that Carter just couldn't be faithful because she was done trying. She didn't know where her head was at anymore but she knew she had to do this - - she had to meet this woman.
