Tobey and I are constantly being mistaken for a couple. It's actually rather frustrating. I mean, he's like a brother to me. He's my best and only friend at this school, he doesn't have any friends that I could be introduced to.
I've never told Tobey that he's a brother to me. I don't know how he'd take it. He's actually really delicate, his stoic façade wouldn't make you think that but once you get to know him, it's blindingly obvious.
Walking down the hall at school, heading to my final lesson of the day, Tobey's walking beside me even though we don't have this class together.
"You don't have to take me to class' anymore ya know. I know my way around now, I have been here for like, I dunno, three months."
"I'm going this way anyway, may as well walk with you."
I know for a fact that's a lie, his class is the opposite direction.
Not wanting to fight with him, I let it slide.
"God, I hope I don't get any homework in this class too, then I'll have gotten some from each lesson and I don't want that."
"..."
This always happens. I'll try to start a conversation so the walk isn't boring or awkward and he doesn't give any form of a reply, just stays silent.
I wonder what he's thinking about...
"Oh my gosh! It's the power couple of the school!" A random student says to us.
"He's like a brother to me."
"She's like a sister to me."
We look at each other, shocked by the fact that we said, essentially, the same thing at the same time.
"That sucks. You two would make a great couple."
At that we walk off.
Welp, here we are.
"See ya later, Tobey." I say, walking into my classroom.
"Bye." At that he runs the way we came.
Maybe he walks with me because I'm his only friend?
