BEACH BESIDE MOUNT JUSTICE

◈ ❂ ◈

Everyone stood quietly for a few moments, suddenly very confused at what they had just witnessed. Minds were racing so fast that the cogs turning were practically audible, especially from Batman's direction. Decisively, he began radioing the Watchtower, "The energy pulse was a group of eleven children ranging in age from about twelve to seventeen, claiming to be our covert team from the possibly near-future. Further details soon. We need all satellites focused on tracking them and backup. Over." As soon as he stopped speaking, the first team member to snap out of the stupor was Solstice, who promptly rose off the ground to about ten feet to peer over the trees next to the beach.

"They can't have gotten far," she called. "If we followed, we could probably catch them."

"No, we should not go after them," Aqualad protested, frowning. "We are outnumbered on our own, and the girl who pulled sea over us was at least part Atlanean, and powerful from the looks of it." She grimaced a little, but returned to ground level. Then Wally tapped her on the arm.

"Yeah, what was up with her? That chick looked a lot like you, Kir. It was actually kid of creepy."

"It was weird," Rocket agreed, glancing at the others with wide eyes. "And I'm pretty sure that girl in the blue was a speedster and she actually looked like you, Wally. Think they might be our kids from the future or something?" As they continued arguing about the similarities and differences and trading theories, Robin, who was standing a little to the side of the group with a slightly pale face, approached his mentor. Batman had a brooding frown on his mouth, but not even that could possibly deter the boy.

"B," he murmured, to a quick, distant but responsive nod. "Did you hear green and purple eyes?" Robin waited for confirmation, which he got. "They were speaking in Romani before they noticed us. Fluently. That's strange, isn't it?" Slowly, Batman turned to look down at the 14-year old. The concerned, contemplating look had not left his eyes as he replied, "Yes. Very."

"I mean, what are the odds?" he continued nervously, then turned back to the conversation in time to hear Artemis exclaiming, "She said that younger kid's name was Alexander Grazer, didn't she? Do we know anyone with the surname Grazer?" and Superboy mumbling, "That kid was a telepath. How can he be me and a telepath?"
