GOTHAM CITY OUTSKIRTS

◈ ❂ ◈

"Wow," Alex said as they came upon the huge city. "It's barely changed." Mar'i stared, too, a little surprised at the familiarity of their home.

"Come on, guys, we're nearly there. This is going to work, and we're all going to get home fine." Cayden beckoned to the others lagging behind. She was being surprisingly optimistic for once, and was thinking to herself that the one speaking inspirationally and encouragingly would usually be Zac. He was actually the one at the very back, looking pale and drained after the time reversal took all of his strength, but the smile he cracked when she spoke made her knees melt. She turned away before he saw the warmth in her cheeks. If Alex was paying any attention at all, he'd be smirking at her. The kid seemed to know all of her secrets, which was kind of worrying, but she didn't know what else to expect from the Gotham boy; all of the Gotham kids seemed to have that specific invasive-detective skill.

After another two or three minutes of walking and flying, the leader of the pack finally stopped.

"Here it is," Alex said, shutting down the screen on his wrist, presenting a discoloured phone box to them. "This is it. You ready, Hal?" The small green girl nodded and Cayden began to feel a little sorry for her. Even her own brothers didn't have faith that she could handle it. Hallie grit her teeth as she stared meaningfully at J'onn and Clark. Then she changed. It was a smooth, fluid transition, from sweet twelve-year old to ageless, limitless Amazonian, and it made her breath catch in her throat. She actually felt as though she was looking at the real Wonder Woman.

"Good job," Mar'i smiled, gesturing for her to spin so she could check. It was rather surreal watching her order Wonder Woman what to do.

"I figured she would be the same as in 2041 'coz she's Amazonian and all," she replied in the same accent as the hero, which sounded rather odd with the different dialect, and out of the corner of her eye, she noted the twins looking at each other, impressed. "Right. I'm ready."

"Be careful, Hal," J'onn said, "we'll be here for backup if you need us."

"Good luck sis." She nodded and stepped into the phone box, receiving the memory stick that was handed to her and tucking it in her belt.

"Push the panic button on the bottom of the USB if you need help," advised Alex, before closing the door. "Lena and I are tech support, and you'll do fine." A chorus of good lucks came from the team, and in half a second, she dissolved in a flash of gold light.

The Watchtower announced Hallie as Wonder Woman, which was a strange thing to hear considering she was used to the sound of her own name on the speakers. She stepped out of the zeta bay and looked around carefully, checking for any signs of immediate danger. Then she remembered, even if anyone was here, they would only see their comrade-in-arms Diana, not a twelve-year old alien mashup from the future.

With business-like steps in case anyone was watching, Hallie crossed the floor to the main computer, noting that this part of the Watchtower was very similar to her own. She could probably navigate it okay - for now. She thought about her brothers and team on the ground far below. If anything happened to her, Clark and J'onn would get the blame from their mom and dad, though even if they all managed to get back safely without altering the timeline, she would have been dissected like an rat in five minutes of being found out. Well, Hallie thought to herself, I'd better not get caught then.

Once she reached the computer bank, she heard voices in a room down the hall and did her best not to shrink into the shadows in camouflage. Camo would make no difference if it was her grandfather or anyone else who could read minds. Hallie focused on putting the USB into a slot on the panel, and instantly, a text box appeared in the top corner with instructions from Lena and Alex, each using different colours.

Lena: Good, you're there safe. First things first, this is old holographic software. No 4D. But 3D is just as good.

Alex: Click into the files in the left hand corner of the screen, select a folder labelled 'LIGHT Info-2011' and drag it to the memory stick. We'll watch and help.

Lena: You better hurry. Batman might be on his way.

Hallie nodded absently to herself, searching through the files when she heard the sound of running feet behind her.
