It's windy and the new blossoms float everywhere. It's wonderful. I like it here. It's so much more beautiful than what I had expected it to be, back when I had first shifted here.
Checking on my watch, I realize how late I am and get on with my brisk walk. My destination is a cottage I now call my home. It's pretty neat considering the meager amount of money I bought it for. Today is a Sunday and that's the reason why I suppose, people are only starting to come out of their houses at 11 in the morning. I had been out- grocery shopping, just like every other Sunday. It's the first time I've enjoyed it though; maybe because I've not hurried as usual.
When I first walk into the cottage, I hear a cat's meow. Realising I must have left a window open, I walk about, trying to find the cat. Just as I guessed, It's Tom, my neighbor Ashley's. So I let it be, and instead, start to unpack the goodies and set them in their right places.
Once done, I pick up Tom and take it back to Ashley. I've never been too fond of pets; I just tolerate them. A pretty redhead opens the door. She's just a bit shorter than me and has a splatter of freckles across her cheeks and nose. Her mouth is set in a wide smile, and it makes me smile too, despite my irritation.
"Take care of the cat"
"You keep all your windows shut!"
We stare at each other for a second, before bursting out into peals of laughter. Ashley's always been an optimistic and funny person, and in these few years, we've grown close.
"Seriously Prim, what does your place has that Tom prefers it to mine?"
"Maybe the fact that it looks lived in? Unlike your hotel lobby?" I raise an eyebrow, glancing at the sleek line of her living room. It really looks so much like a hotel.
"Anyways" I smile and wave. "I should get going. I'm packed today"
"Alrighty, babe. Take care"
"You too. Bye"
When I'm halfway down the stairs, I turn back and speak impulsively, "Let's go on a dinner date. What say? Just us two?"
"Umm, let me take a raincheck, yeah? I'll tell you by 6?"
"For sure!" I wave and jump down the stairs.
Then, I'm back on my way to my cottage.
My house is quaint and cute if I can say so myself. It's a two -story building and had originally belonged to Ashley's paternal grandmother. The walls were a pretty shade of yellow, and inside, it was prettier. On the first floor, I had a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, the front porch as well as the back porch. The second floor had my own bedroom, a guest room, my study, and another room which I still hadn't used.
My front yard had some thick shrubbery and potted plants. I grow flowers; it's a nice distraction. This garden isn't as big as the one I used to keep once. Oh, how things change! My car is kept in a garage which is just a stone's throw from my gate. The back porch, however, is another story. It has a nice slope with grass that I love. There are also some apple trees at the bottom. Sometimes, I imagine having a pool here. Well, someday I guess!
When I'm not reviewing books, I like to volunteer at the local library. So, as you can imagine, my life revolves around books. Luckily, I have enough money to pursue my hobbies full time without breaking a sweat.
Since it's Sunday, that too, the first Sunday of the month, I tend to do all my chopping, cleaning and grooming. So, after having woken up at the crack of dawn, I had done all the dusting, laundry, then pressed and folded all the clothes too. By 9, I was done with the cleaning and went for breakfast at the local diner where Linda served me rice with chicken curry- their Sunday special. Then, like I said, I did all the shopping and had a small nap.
It wasn't restful. It hardly ever is. I can't sleep well. I swear one of these days, I'm gonna collapse.
I wake up at 5.30 and then rush to my spa appointment. I am a firm believer of grooming and visit a salon every two weeks. I love it, just like every other girl because it's so relaxing. however, only for a while.
Because when I close my eyes, I see blue orbs, so bright that I gasp. It's not easy. It never is, and I'm shaken by the intensity of my feelings. I see him. Everywhere. Wherever I go, I still search for his face among the masses. In a sea of strangers, I still try to find those pair of blazing blue eyes.
It's been almost three years, and I still can't forget. I laugh at how pathetic I am.
