I stumbled away from the trash bin, completely disoriented as I hopelessly attempted to keep my footing but collapsed in a heap. I stared straight ahead, looking at my reflection in the metallic silver can. My foxy brown hair was a mess, tangles and knots following every which way instead of the slicked back style that I'd adopted in my young years, I found that it was better for my hair to become frizzy or curly through the course of the day, more attractive in my own opinion. I sported the generic scrubs that were issued to every Doctor, pairing it with khakis and Sperry's, nothing special per usual, but it worked.

Perhaps focusing on how I looked and not the recent events made me feel somewhat good, the fact that I was able to find refuge in my appearance and not have to confront how I felt was, well, relieving. The truth though was I remained unsatisfied with how I looked, I never went out and flaunted, most nights I'd enjoy in the security of my house, wasting away with whiskey and a medical journal. I'd consistently allow the life I had the opportunity to endure slip through my fingers, never allowing anybody to get close enough to hurt me. I couldn't allow somebody the intimacy required to love me... I'd been stung too bad.

That was likely the reason that it hurt so bad when one of the only people I'd loved, and was loved by in return would let me lose him. Or her. Or dammit, it. Was I hardset on the values that I'd grown up with? That wasn't really the problem, it's that I'd failed to instill those same values in Mitchell and now it would result in me having to bury another person that I loved.

I'd begun contemplating entering my child's room again but I'd only made it to the door. I raised my hand to push open.

"Mr. Marsden!"

My hand helplessly fell aside. It didn't matter who it was, but the desperate plea of a nurse stayed consistent regardless of who said it. I attempted to not appear too dismayed as I slowly turned to face the nurse in pink.

"There's a man claiming that he's Thor, and he's arresting! We need you!"

When she put it that way, how could I say no?
