"Do you have everything," asked the tall social worker named Lucy and she would be taking me to my first new family. I will be staying with the Johnson's for about a week before I make my decision to stay or not stay with them.
"I think so," I responded as I lifted my old brown suitcase.
"Ok let's go," Lucy said as she opened the door to the black and shinny car. The black leather seats stuck to my legs because of the hot humid California weather. Lucy doesn't talk much but that doesn't bother me because I don't talk much either.
"Are you excited," questioned Lucy about 10 minutes later.
"Ummm... I don't know what to feel. I'm kind of excited but not totally excited just scared mainly," I responded as I kept looking out the window.
"Well I think you will like this family. Mr and Mrs Johnson have two children Caleb who is the oldest of the two he is 18 and Tiffany who is 15," Lucy said trying to cheer Summer up.
"They are so much older than me," I said even more scared.
"You will be ok. I gave the Johnson's my phone number and I have a gift for you. I will give it to you when we arrive at the Johnson's," Lucy said as she turned to smile at me.
"Really!"
"Yep," Lucy said smiling again.
About 25 minutes pass (I think) until we finally arrived at the Johnsens. Lucy got out and opened to door for me. Lucy always made me feel welcomed and at home some how. Standing by the front door were four people Mrs. Johnson (I'm guessing) had long dark brown hair, large brown round eyes, and was wearing a white dress with pink, blue, and purple flowers on the bottom. Mrs. Johnson was also quite tall. Mr. Johnson was wearing a blue polo shirt and Kaki's he was also very tall. Mr. Johnson was almost a head tall than Mrs. Johnson. Caleb was standing next to his mother and he was wearing a blue and black Adidas shirt with black Nike short and black and white Nike shoes. Tiffany was standing in between Mr and Mrs Johnson and was wearing blue jean shorts, a yellow tank top, and black and brown sandeles. Just looking at them I felt weird on the inside.
"Well, let's go and introduce you," Lucy said lightly pushing me forward.
"Well hello Summer," Mrs. Johnson said in a light spring like voice.
"Hi," I said shyly.
"We are so happy that you get to spend some time with us," Mr. Johnson said as he started to walk towards us.
"Hey," Caleb said "I'm Caleb," he added walking towards Lucy and I.
"Hi," I said again a little louder.
"Hey, I'm Tiffany," Tiffany said rolling her eyes and pulling out a phone.
"Don't mind her she's like that a lot," Caleb said a he bumped me on the shoulder.
"We should go inside because it is very hot out here, follow me," Mrs. Johnson said in a bubbly voice. I looked at Lucy before following the family inside. As soon as the door opened I could feel a large woosh of cold air. Lucy did a lot of talking with the Johnsons as I sat there taking in the beauty of the house. I would talk a little bit and it wasn't a lot.
"Well I've got to go so I'll leave you guys to get to know each other. And Summer I promised you a gift," Lucy said as she reached in her bag and pulled out a small box wrapped in pink and white spotted wrapping paper and was topped with a white bow. Two of my favorite colors.
"Thank you," I said standing up to take the gift and give Lucy a hug for thanking her and saying god by.
"Your welcome and I will see all of you next week at 6," Lucy said as she hugged me back.
"Ok," said Mrs. Johnson.
"See you next week Summer."
"Bye."
Once Lucy left everyone was quiet until Mrs. Johnson started to ask me questions like what's my favorite color, do I like animals, what do you like to do, and other questions. I answered each question politely and quickly. Mrs. Johnson kept asking so many question until Mr. Johnson said,
"Do you want go outside to help with making dinner, its hotdogs and hamburgers. Wait, you eat meat right?"
"Yes I do eat meat and yes that would be nice to go outside."
"Ok come on," he said motioning towards the large glass sliding doors that lead to the back yard. Once we got outside I sat down on the light brown picnic bench. Mr. Johnson didn't talk much unlike his wife. Later that night once everyone was done eating and the dishes were done we played games and watch the movie Finding Nemo.
"Ok, looks like its time for bed." Mr. Johnson said as he got up. I also got up and followed him towards the bedroom that I would be sleeping in. The bedroom had light pink walls and the bed had white sheets. There was a brown chest in the corner and next to the bed was a matching night table.
"Good night, I hope you like the room. Do you want me to tuck you in?"
"I like the room and don't worry I can tuck my self in. Good night."
"Ok, good night," he said walking out of the room. Once Mr. Johnson left the room I took out the clothes I had out of my suitcase to put them in the chest draws and when I opened it I found that they were filled with clothes already. I was to tried to have any emotion so I just set my own clothes on top of the dresser and crawled into bed. The bed was soft and comfy it felt like it was a cloud. Not long after crawling into bed I fell into a deep sleep.
