*Chapter Three*

Aurora slammed her pen down on her desk, a bit louder than normal. Flushing red in embarrassment as half the class turned around to stare at her, Aurora inwardly snorted. Who did he think he was anyway? She was going to crush that arrogant attitude of his and force the answers out of him. Her gaze flickered to him, all the way at the other end of the class. He was saying something to a girl next to her, not even bothering to pretend he was listening to the teacher’s lecture.

After school, it had to be after school. She wouldn’t let him run away from her before she could finish talking for the third time.

“As I have mentioned in the last few lessons, the project that you will be doing for the next month will count for most of your grade for this semester. It’s a partner project,” the teacher stated. The whole class erupted into glee as everyone started deciding his or her partners. “I will be choosing the partners.”

Aurora nearly laughed. It was almost comical how the entire class sighed at once.

“James, you pair up with Diana.”

As the list went on and on, Aurora tapped the wooden table in front of her impatiently. She waited for her own name to be announced so she could get this over with. She smirked. Only if this were the cliché romance novels the teenagers today are so obsessed about in which the two main characters of the novels almost always automatically get paired together, she wouldn’t have to worry about anything. Throwing that pointless thought away, Aurora knew that she would have to come up with a plan to get Adrian to talk to her as soon as she could.

“Aurora, your partner will be Adrian.”

Her tapping stopped, and her head snapped up. Her mouth literally dropped open in shock. Luckily, the teacher had already read on to the next pair and didn’t have to see her awkward facial expression. Unluckily, for the second time in a lesson, Aurora could feel the eyes of the entire class focused solely on her. Aurora spun her head to the side, searching for her partner’s form in the crowded classroom. His gaze met hers, the irony of the situation clear in his eyes.

“Is anything wrong, Cadence? You will be pairing up with Ryan.”

Aurora could feel a heavy glare boring a hole through her skull. Her glance slipped sideways to the girl who sat next to Adrian. Her dark brown hair hung in long curls down her waist, and her flawless skin was a deep olive color. Her eyelashes were long and thick, framing her large green eyes. She had high cheekbones, and her lips were coated in a bright pink gloss. Aurora had to admit that she was extremely pretty

If looks could kill, Aurora was certain she would be dead on the spot. The girl turned to face the teacher, a large smile stretching across her face.

“May I request to be Adrian’s partner?” she said coyly.

Aurora’s eyes narrowed. She couldn’t let her to ruin her plans. She opened her mouth to say something, but the teacher beat her to it.

“I’m sorry Cadence, but the partners are set to make the teams fair while competing with each other,” the teacher turned to face the class. “By the end of the month, you are requested to hand in a proper project. It can be anything you want as long as it’s related to the subject. For this week’s homework, I want you to write a detailed plan. Also, from now on, you must sit next to your partner.”

Cadence glared daggers at her. Aurora was slightly surprised by the animosity behind those eyes. Aurora heard the chair next to her being scraped back. She lifted her head, and as expected, the blond settled himself next to her.

“Your girlfriend’s jealous,” she said, jerking her head towards the girl from earlier. “Is that really okay?”

Confusion crossed his features. He turned his towards where Aurora gestured and realization dawned on his face.
