*Chapter Fifteen*

“Adrian!” The girl’s white diaphanous skirt, after being drenched in the azure lake’s water, billowed out softly in the wind. Her black hair stuck to her neck from the dampness, and she had a playful glare in her eyes.

She could easily pass off as Aurora’s twin.

“Oh, come on! It’s just some water!” Adrian defended himself. He was laughing too hard to even stand straight.

For a second, Aurora was mesmerized. Although, physically, he was exactly the same, mentally though, this Adrian was not the Adrian she knew. This Adrian was playful, relaxed, and carefree. His eyes held none of the aversion Aurora was so used to seeing in his eyes. This Adrian was like a child who had yet seen the cruelty of the world. That was exactly what this Adrian was – a naïve boy.

“It’s not just some water!” the girl cried, waving her fist angrily at him. She had an adoring yet mischievous look. Aurora found herself captivated by the girl’s strange charisma. Whoever the girl was, she was most probably well-liked by everyone with her wide smile and kind look.

Without any warning, the girl leapt after Adrian. Adrian, seeing her, quickly stopped laughing and broke into a run.

“Oh, I won’t let you get away!”

Suddenly, a pair of large white wings shot out from the girl’s back. She jumped into the air. Her wings flapped once, aiding her jump. As soon as she was close enough, she threw herself at the blond.

“I told you I -”

Adrian pressed his lips against hers, cutting off whatever she had wanted to say. Aurora knew that it was rude, but she couldn’t turn herself away from the scene. Even though this was just a memory, it was still there. The love between the two was immense. The look in their eyes as they stared into each other’s eyes made Aurora felt like they each thought they were the luckiest person alive to have each other. Adrian smiled a lopsided grin.

“I quite like the position.” He smirked. The girl turned beetroot red. She tried to get up, but Adrian’s hand held her arm, preventing her from moving an inch. “Don’t go,” he whispered against her skin, causing goose bumps to rise up on her soft skin. “Please, Faith, just today.”

The images in front of Aurora wavered. Aurora didn’t realize she had been holding her breath the entire time. She breathed out heavily and brought her hand to her forehead, steadying herself. This was why she hated poking into other people’s mind. The emotions Adrian had felt at that time were genuine, that much Aurora was positive, yet for some reason, it was because of the sincerity behind those emotions, Aurora felt asphyxiated.

The images transformed once again. This time, it was just Adrian standing in a room. It was dark, and Aurora could feel Adrian’s fear radiating out of him. Adrian? Scared?

“Adrian,” a rough voice addressed him. She saw him straighten up. The playfulness in his eyes had disappeared, but Aurora could tell it still hadn’t disappeared completely. At the same time, Aurora could see the desperation and hatred forming slowly. “Tell me your answer.”

There was a slight hesitance before his eyes hardened, his decision formed.

“I agree.”

Aurora did not get this part, but she didn’t linger too long. She felt the images change once more. This time, Faith stood in front of her. Aurora immediately recognized this as Artemis. The area was unfamiliar, and Aurora assumed it to be one of the abandoned area that was now unused.

“Please Adrian!” She sobbed, two trails of tears streaming down her porcelain cheek. “I don’t anyone else to die!”

“You’d rather sacrifice yourself?” Adrian asked in disbelief. His voice was controlled, yet Aurora could see his anger boiling just beneath his skin. His face was a blank mask.
