He had texted her that very afternoon, asking if she wanted to meet for a meal. She immediately agreed. Jaxon and Arielle met continuously throughout the two weeks he was there in Brooklyn. They went to see films together,a concert, went for meals and went down the beach. Sometimes it was just them and sometimes Jaxon had planned it for a group activity. Arielle met Jaxon's friends, including the guy he was with in the bar, who was called Zachary.
On the last day that Jaxon was there in Brooklyn with Arielle, they went bowling. As a group, of course, and some of the Military men had their girls too. Some that they had just met and some they had been dating or married to for years, who had come down to see them. Zachary and a few other guys were solo but it was all fun together. A guy called Samuel won the game they had. A few went on to play another game while others went off to other things.
"Look there's an arcade over there. Let's see if I can't beat you at something." Jaxon said to Arielle with a smirk. Zac joined them and they tried to beat each other at racing games, the crane machines and the slot machines. Jaxon won Arielle a blueberry smelling teddy bear, the size of her palm.
They found a hot dog stand nearby from the bowling alley and had a hotdog each, topped with mustard, ketchup and fried onions. Zac and Jaxon walked Arielle home to her apartment.
"I'll er... Give you two a moment." Zac said as he strolled out to the corner of the street and took out his cell phone. Arielle felt her heart become suddenly very heavy. As if it was solid metal.
"Are you sure you don't want to come in?"
"I've got to be with my group at five... I wish I could. But let's not rush things."
"We'll meet again?" Jaxon smiled.
"Yes. We will," He handed her a card with an address scrawled on it. "We'll be near for a bit but I won't be able to have my mobile phone... So,write to me. I'll be waiting everyday for a letter. Just from you."
"I'll miss you." And before she had even thought about it... She pulled him close and kissed him. Jaxon was surprised but kissed her back. He placed his hands on her waist and she interlocked her fingers behind his neck, pulling each other as close as they could before their separation. Eventually they broke apart and with blurry vision, she wished them both a goodnight and went up into her apartment. Arielle shut her door and leaned against it as the tears spilled over and down her cheeks.
At eleven in the morning, the next day, the apartment door buzzed.
"Who is it?" She asked dully. She had barely slept, she had only just met Jaxon and yet... She desired him so much...
"It's Zac. Let me in?"
"Oh... Erm. Sure." She buzzed him in and opened her door as he ran up the stairs. He smiled cheerfully at her. Jaxon was brown and curly, tall and lean. Zac was black haired and just as lean, but not as tall, maybe a few inches smaller than he was but he was still taller than Arielle.
"Hi." He said, cheerfully. He wasn't in uniform. He was in denim jeans and a camouflage green shirt, showing off muscle.
"I thought you were all off?" Zac's smile wavered.
"Well... We are. Were. They. The infantry have gone. I'm an engineer though. I work but I don't have to live in the camp. I'm nearby so I'm fine at the hotel."
"Oh... But Jaxon's gone?"
"Yeah... Jaxon's gone."
"Right." Arielle leaned against her door, staring down into her half empty coffee cup.She then shook her head and stood up properly. "Sorry come in...I'll make a fresh brew." Arielle stepped back from her door and Zac walked in, looking around at the apartment in wonder.
