I woke up earlier than usual on Monday morning to get ready for work, remembering my promise to Stanford about coming in early on Monday.
I never took a liking to Monday mornings, but I still manage to make it through the day without mere incidents.
Once I ran a brush through my hair, I put on a necklace and a matching pair of earrings and ran out to my car.
I took a peek at the almost empty parking lot next to Tech G and let out a small groan. It was way too early to be there, but I knew that I'd get a brilliant parking spot.

I sat down in my office and saw the pile of papers on my desk, just waiting for me to finish filing them, and sorting them out. I let out a disappointing sigh and got to work.
My stomach drops when I peek out the window and saw the sleek black limousine pull into the parking lot. I drop one of the papers on the floor and scold myself silently for being stupid. I pick up the papers from the floor and put them in alphabetical order before I put them in the correct filing cabinet. I walk out of my office and walk down the hall to the reception area where Maxine usually works.
I see that someone new is in that spot and my stomach drops again. It's the brunette from the wedding on Saturday. I clear my throat and she looks up from her magazine. "Can I help you?" She asks in a sickeningly sweet voice.
"Oh no," I tell her, "I work here I was just coming to put this" -I hold up a piece of paper- "in the right place." I shuffle past her and and open the cabinet I know the paper belongs in.
"Wait a minute," she says with a grin, "you're Pipi from the wedding!"
"Pacifica," I correct and I give her a fake smile that I hope looks genuine to her. "But yes, we met at the wedding."
"How nice," she smiles, "we get to work together!"
"I'm surprised you aren't the boss," I say quietly.
The brunette giggles, "no way would I be able to run this company, I wasn't taught business like that. But someone in the family was."
The elevator dings and opens, revealing a man in a black suit with a pair of expensive shades on. I could guess that he was the new man in charge. He's tall and has brown hair that looks messy. "Hope I'm not late," his voice sounds musical, "couldn't get away."
The brunette receptionist giggles, "no, no one else is here besides me and Priscilla,"
"Pacifica," I correct under my breath and hope that she didn't hear me. Although I wonder why she can't get my name into her brain!
"Why are you here so early, Priscilla?" My new boss asks, and he sounds genuinely curious. "I thought it was just going to be Mabel and I for awhile."
Ah, so her name his Mabel. I thought for a minute on calling her another name. It would be perfect considering that she can't even remember my name. But I couldn't get in trouble with the new boss. When I look at him, I realize that he can't be much older than me, sure he looks that way, but his face looks too young to be older than Maxine.
I watch as he takes off his shades and I am immediately mesmerized by his eyes. Like Mabel's, they are blue, but his have more of an arctic blue than electric blue.
"I promised Mr Stanford that I'd come to work early on Monday because I left early on Friday." I explain quickly. "So here I am," I feel so stupid saying this out loud but he asked me a question that I felt obligated to answer.
"Hmm, you seem to have good working habits, I'm hoping this isn't just a one time thing, Priscilla." He replies icily.
"Pacifica," I wince when I correct myself, I hate telling people that but if I am working for him, he needs to know my real name.
"I'm sorry?" He looks confused by my comment and he turns his gaze on me.
"My name is actually Pacifica," I hear that my voice is quiet and I can't help but mentally slap myself for keeping my voice quiet. The room is beginning to spin and I feel sick to my stomach.
"Pacifica," he says my name with grace and ease. His icy eyes meet mine and his lips twitch upward, fighting off a smile, "I like Priscilla better." He walks off and I watch him as he leaves.
From behind the counter, Mabel scoffs, "don't think my brother likes you, he just does this for show." She rolls her eyes, venom in her voice that I can hear.
I couldn't help but think about how rude my new boss is, he says he likes the name that Mabel called me better and I feel annoyed by him. I wish Stanford and Maxine came back to work at Tech G instead of these two twins who, I can already tell, will be making my life miserable.
I can handle Mabel's purpose mess ups on my name but I don't think I want to even be in the same room with my new boss. His personality is bloody awful, I just hope I can survive.
