An introduction to a slightly different version of Riley's lifestyle. It cuts off in the middle of a sentence for some reason.

The truth was that he was plenty intelligent, his scholarship was due to having really high exam grades. The truth was that he lived in cheap apartment, and barely scraped by; the money his dad sent was only enough for practical expenses—food, utility bills, any school fees. They couldn't afford more than that. The school didn't allow students to work, so he pick-pocketed for recreational money. He bought his cigarettes from an acquaintance in college for a discounted price. Drinks came from his friends, bar or club management who knew his friends. He only went to performance clubs, with bands and the like. The truth was that he and his friends most often sat outside the clubs in an inconspicuous area, sneaking "in" that way. The truth was that he wasn't a playboy, girls just clung to him, mostly older girls, and they did exchange

After Max teases Eran in lab and Eran leaves. If you're an old reader, you might have seen this.

Elias looked at Max. "What are you doing?"

"I like teasing him. It's not like I'm serious."

"You should probably stop. He gets annoyed by some things, but isn't someone who holds grudges. But I've never seen him this bothered. He might really file a complaint against you."

"...Really?"

"Yep. You probably don't know because you just came here, but I've known him since grade 12. Though we weren't friends the whole time. I'm not even sure if he considers us friends right now," he laughed self-deprecatingly.

Max looked at him impatiently.

"Anyway, there are two things he really hates: One, people who aren't serious about their jobs and two, people who aren't serious towards other people. He really values respect. Well, if you keep irritating him, the least you'll receive is some kind of injury. Nothing serious though, it's usually just maybe pulled muscles and sore joints."
