Fili looked up at the stars, he felt alone and sad. For tonight was Kili and Skilla's wedding night. Fili sat alone near the mine. The music from the wedding echoed off of the mountain face. Fili stood up with the help from his crutch. He stared at the closed mine that was the grave of his father. He listened to the upbeat music as he let his thoughts flow through his mind. His peace was disturbed by Kili who had come to talk to his brother about his disappearance. Kili was in traditional dwarf wedding wear which consisted of gold and armor. Kili's helmet was under his arm and as he walked up to Fili he began to play with the gold feather that stuck out of the helmet. Fili had been waiting for Kili, his younger brother always knew where FIli went to go get some peace and quiet. Fili adjusted the crutch under his arm and looked over at Kili."Why didn't you show up," Kili asked heartbroken. Fili turned away from Kili, he was upset that he didn't show up, but how could he? Ever Since Skilla had been living with the family Fili and Kili hadn't gotten along. Fili was always out of the house and wouldn't come home until late. Fili felt as if Skilla was always in the way of Kili and him, and that's why he was always gone.
"Fili, I needed you there," Kili added on as his voice broke. Fili looked down at his brother, Kili hung his head down low as if he were being punished. Fili wanted to cry also, but instead he choked down his tears and stood firmly. Kili was fearful of his brother, ever since Skilla had moved in, Fili was more angry and would come home drunk, Fili was no longer the brother he once knew.
"Congratulations on the wedding," was all that Fili told Kili. Kili wiped the tears away from his face and then anger overcame him. Kili threw his helmet to the floor and threw his arms up into the air. As the helmet hit the floor and made a large noise it caught Fili's attention, he turned to his brother to find him throwing his arms up into the air.
"Why? Why are you being like this? I have done nothing to you. All I asked of you was for you to show up to my wedding! Was that too much," Kili yelled . Fili stepped back a little bit out of fear of his brother's wrath. Fili then became angry also, he threw his crutch down.
"Because of Skilla. I don't like her. For Mallah sake my younger brother got married before me. Adila and I are no longer together. I have to become drunk just to forget about my problems! When i do come home you always talk about Skilla. It's always about her, it's never about anything else. I hate becoming bitter, but it feels as if I no longer have you in my life," Fili yelled back taking a few steps forward as to defend himself. Kili was overwhelmed about what his brother just told him. After Oin had released him from bed rest Fili and Kili had not done anything together, and Kili was so wrapped up with Skilla he had forgotten to spend time with his brother. Fili stood there waiting for Kili to reply, but Kili didn't.
"I'm moving out anyways, I bought a house. You and your wife can live alone with Mom and uncle," Fili informed Kili as he began to walk away. Kili sat down on the floor and watched as his brother left. Fili continued down the hill back home to lay in agony. Kili saw that Fili had become more capable of walking, but his limp was still present. As Fili faded from sight Kili turned to the mine that was boarded up. Kili got up and walked over to the mine. As Kili walked he stumbled over his brother's crutch. He picked up the crutch and looked at the design Fili had carved into it. As Kili looked into it he saw two little figures playing together and above the two figures it read 'two Durin brothers' in dwarvish. Kili felt guilt as he remembered all of those conversations Fili tried to have with him, but he would always talk about Skilla. Kili closed his eyes as he remembered the last adventure they had ,and that was in the beginning of winter. Fili had been the bait so that Adila and Kili could get away and now he had to suffer from a damaged ankle. Fili had started guard work three months ago, but he was at the bottom low job as a guard. He now had to start all over again. Kili let out a sigh as another tear fell down his cheek. Kili adjusted his grip on the crutch and looked over at the mine. He finally got up to the mine and touched the wood pieces that protected the untouched rocks.
