"Amaya?" Riku asked, poking his head into the room.
"Hello, Commander." The girl replied with a polite smile. She was at her bedside, strapping her boots on.
"Hey there. Good, you're almost ready. The war council's gonna be in 15 minutes in the conference room on Zones's ship. So, uh..." The half-demon stopped, unsure of how to continue.
"Get a move on? See you there?" Amaya finished the sentence for him, still wearing the same smile.
"Well, yeah." Riku answered with a shrug and another smile. "You know."
"It's fine, Riku." The black-haired girl grinned as she grabbed her fur cape and started to put it on. "You're my Commander, you still have the right to give me orders. Don't forget that."
"Yeah. You're right." The man scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Well, catch you on the Mickey."
"You bet." She winked; the cue for him to leave the room.
Amaya Bard was a very loyal member of the Niji Army. Ever since she was recruited after being saved from her dying home planet of Hai Jing by them, she had worked hard to be of use and earn her place among their ranks, especially so since the beginning of the Empire War; one of the army's toughest moments. The young woman was a talented fighter and seeker, a fast learner and an excellent team worker. Her valuable traits had gotten her promoted very quickly, eventually becoming one of the Niji Army's highest-ranked officers. She was also very liked, and had made many friends during their travels and hardships. The girl was truly happy to be a part of them, to have found a new home with the Niji Army.
Amaya was also the goddess of the night.
It hadn't always been this way, though. Her Tale, Macha, had turned out to be Hai Jing's war goddess, who came with her after their world's demise at the hands of Kitsune. Macha watched over their planet's last survivor until her own time came to an end, at which point she transferred her divinity onto Amaya and subsequently passed away.
"Receive the gift of immortality and the title of goddess from me, my child. As your affinity to the crow people you used to dwell with back on our world dictates, so shall you oversee the offspring of the night from their natural environment. Your divinity is of the night, Amaya Bard. Cultivate it. Maintain our legacy for eons to come. This power is now in your hands." Macha had declared.
You see, even though gods are considered immortal, they too have a weakness, as everyone does. Gods are highly powerful beings recognized not for their potent ability to destroy, but for their ability to create. However, they can only draw this power from their followers' faith. The more devotees a god has, the greater their creationist power becomes. Macha, born a goddess, gradually lost her entire existence over time after all her followers were wiped out in the Hai Jing cataclysm. But even if Amaya never forged a cult in her own name, she would live on, for she was born mortal. She could get that power back whenever she desired, as long as she had people believing in her.
