Following the battle of Dioxes, the Rebel Alliance took a moment to honor what minimal casualties they had sustained by giving those brave souls a proper send-off. However, the survivors had little time to rest. The Intergalactic Empire quickly learned of the defeat of the forces they had sent to take the temple, and were scrambling to regroup and maintain order on the worlds under their influence, the populace realizing their conquerors were not as great as they made themselves appear to be. After capturing the stray capital ships, securing them for their cause, the Rebels took this time to infiltrate those planets and sway the civilians to their side, instigating revolts all around the universe. Slowly but surely, the Empire began to lose their grip on the magic worlds they had taken, as the people gained the courage to oppose them. In their demoralized scrambling to respond to this mass uprising, the galactic expansionists diverted their attention away from Dioxes, as did the Rebellion. Moon Snake was left alone to rot in his solitary temple on his lonely planet, no longer given the focus he desired.
One of the recovered magic worlds was Darreek's home planet of Daphnis. He was overjoyed like no one else to have restored its freedom, but declined the offer to go back and stay there, at least for the time being. He chose to keep fighting, to work towards liberating other worlds like his own. Besides...
"I have someone to keep an eye on, sir." He told his superior, Zones. "I leave her alone, she might get another favorite follower somewhere. Can't have that."
Amaya beamed.
In their mission report, the Dioxes Squad had included what they had learned about the story of Night Crow and Bright Crow. They were met with very surprised reactions from their comrades, but all in all, they were well received. The Rebel Alliance was very encouraged to know they were in the company of not one, but two deities, and gave the couple their most heartfelt blessings. Some even promised to keep spreading the legend of the two crows as much as they could, so their power could keep growing and their relationship could stay strong. Amaya and Darreek were very grateful. They could not ask for better friends.
"Do you think death will really break us apart someday?" The woman asked him one day, during a rare opportunity to be together alone among their busy work schedule.
"Probably." The demon replied. "But we can worry about that when the time comes. Besides, we're destined to find each other again, aren't we? We'll never really be apart."
"Thank the gods for that." The girl sighed, smiling.
"By 'gods', you mean Moon Snake." The man corrected.
"Heh. I'm pretty sure he never meant for things to go this way." Amaya grinned. "He wanted us to suffer for all eternity, but he helped create something wonderful in the end. Best backfiring plan of all time, huh?"
Darreek laughed; that hearty, deep laugh she loved so.
"I'm grateful, even though that lizard can stay forgotten on his rock forever. Who needs him?"
"Hear, hear."
The two leaned in for a kiss, and stayed locked in it for as long as they could before duty forced them to separate.
"I really wish we could stay longer." Amaya said as the duo prepared to leave. "But hey, the sooner we end this war, the more time we'll have for ourselves, yeah?"
"You bet." Darreek winked. "Hey, do you sense that?"
He was looking towards one of the two doors out of the common room of the ship. The black-haired woman stared in the same direction, and felt the presence her love felt. She looked back at him, smirking mischievously.
"I do. Should we?"
"Definitely."
Lib would never admit to being a sneaky eavesdropper, but he was certainly guilty of it on more than one occasion. He chose the wrong moment to take a minor break from sticking his ear to the door, though. The Muician never noticed them leaving the room through the secondary exit, and he certainly didn't sense them approaching from behind as he wondered why they had fallen so silent.
"That's not nice, you know."
The man's voice made the alien yelp and jump. Turning around, startled, he saw the couple staring him down with amused expressions on their faces.
"What the hell! Do you want my kind to go extinct?" Lib yelled, clutching his heart.
"No, but I think I'm going to have a word with Zones about that raise." Amaya snickered.
"Alright alright goddess, you got me." The spy raised his hands in defeat. "But just so you know, I'm doing this because I care about you two, and I wanna be in the loop! There, I said it!"
"Oh, you didn't need to admit it to us." The girl answered with a smile. "We know."
"What? You just played me, then!" The Muician retorted.
"No." Darreek interjected. "We came to let you know you're part of the team, Reborn. Amaya wants you by her side more than anybody else."
"With the exception of you, maybe." Lib shot back, but the goddess could tell her friend was very pleased to hear that. "Still, how can I say no to the lovely lady? Count me in."
"Thank you again, guys." She said to her two most trusted buddies, putting her hands on their shoulders. "If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't even be here today. You're the best. Let's keep sticking together."
"Wouldn't have it any other way." The demon reaffirmed his position. "I'm staying as your biggest follower."
"I'm gonna have to fight you for that position, I'm afraid, man." The alien responded defiantly yet playfully.
The male and the genderless bickered at each other over it, and while they did, Amaya noted to herself that Darreek was making an effort to keep his word this time. He wasn't actively trying to get on Riku's nerves now; even the half-demon himself could tell, although he couldn't help but react aggressively against some of the white-haired man's remarks. Their interactions were kind of endearing now. She could live with that.
The night goddess smiled. She had embraced her true self, and worked to cultivate her divinity. Progress was being made in the war. The United Rebels and the Niji Army continued to grow and get closer to one another. Darreek loved her, and she loved him back. It seemed as if life could only get better and better. It didn't matter if work got in the way of many other things; she was glad to be a part of this whole endeavor. Working towards a better future for everyone was very satisfying for the soul... especially if she could stay by her beloved's side for the rest of time thanks to it.
As for Lib, well, he was special too. His faith for Amaya went beyond that of a simple devotee; he was her best friend, and even that wasn't saying enough. She knew he would go further than anyone else would just to see her happy and well without expecting anything in return, and he wouldn't do that for anybody else in all of existence. The woman vowed to maintain that relationship with the Muician for as much as she could, even if it wouldn't transcend their mortalities.
Lib felt reciprocal about it. He would do whatever it took for the sake of Amaya's well-being...
...even if it meant that, in the future, he went against time, space, order, chaos and the entire multiverse to do so.
