Gaius was pushed up against the cupboard of Merlin's room by an infuriated Arthur, sword at throat.
"You're telling me that YOU KNEW? How could you lie to me?"
"You'd've killed him, Arthur. It'd be exactly like this, but it'd be Merlin instead of me! You wouldn't show him the mercy you've given to me, would you?" Arthur stood there, lowering his sword from the frail man's throat. Would he have killed Merlin? He tried to say no, but couldn't. All his life, it'd been magic is evil, sorcerers should die, burn them, stab them...
"Sire?"
Maybe his father was wrong. Was all magic bad? Merlin was his friend, and he'd never brought harm to Camelot! He wasn't corrupted... he was just Merlin.
"M'lord?"
What if his father feared magic? When Morgause let Arthur speak with his mother, she'd said he was born from magic. He'd been told it was lies, but what if it wasn't?
"Arthur!"
He would've banned it, it'd killed his wife, but Uther knew what would happen! Maybe he didn't accept it, blamed magic. What if it was the fear that made it banned, not the corruption said to by brought by magic.
"Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot!" Gwen's voice rang through Arthur's mind. It brought him back to reality.
"Oh, Guinevere," Arthur said, still partially in thought.
"What is wrong with you?"
"Nothing, Gwen, it's fine..."
"Well saying I came in with you lowering a sword from Gaius' throat, I don't think all is good! Arthur, you know you can trust me..." Gwen slowly walked over to Arthur, a comforting hand put on his shoulder. He knew he could trust Gwen, but could Merlin? Merlin! He'd forgotten in the rage what he'd done. Tears streamed down his face and he fell to his knees. Gaius and Gwen rushed down to stabilise his shaking figure.
"I-I'm horrible... I l-left him..." Arthur kept muttering to no-one in particular.
"What are you talking about?" Gwen hesitantly asked. Gaius looked at Gwen, then Arthur.
"We need to ride out, NOW!" Arthur shot up, and headed for the door.
"Sire, it's raining. The storm isn't getting any better for a few hours at least!" Gaius intervened, just as confused as Gwen.
"No! I can't leave him there... alone..."
"Wha... Merlin!"

A/N: Arthur went through a major character arc and it's written horribly so I'm sorry but if something like that would happen to me, I think I'd be sort of like that, don't you think?
