It'd been a few days since Merlin had been injured, but he hadn't shown any signs of consciousness.
"You said he'd be alright," Arthur mentioned to Gaius as he was refitting another bandage.
"I know, Sire, he should of woken up days ago."
"What do you think is wrong?"
"I've checked over him, and he's completely fine. The only thing I can suggest is that he WON'T wake up."
"Won't wake up?"
I think everything that's happened, you finding out about his magic then... leaving him..." Gaius faltered at the last words. Arthur looked down slightly. He was disgusted about what he'd done; he wished he could take it back and, knowing everything now, would stay.
"How can we make him wake up?"
"There isn't anything we can do, Sire."
"There must be SOMETHING! Anything, even magic!"
"Arthur..." Gaius stood up and walked over to the King.
"I-I..." That was the moment Arthur couldn't take it any more. He let himself fall down, break his walls and let the tears to overflow. If Merlin didn't ever wake up, if he died, thinking Arthur hated him for how he was born, he wouldn't know what to do. He was already blaming it on himself as if the event had come to pass.
"Merlin's brought this on himself, and only he can stop it, so all we can do is hope. Hope he sees sense, hope he wakes up..."
