I ended up finishing my rounds and eliminated: Ben, Neil, Chris, and Jonathan. And like that we were down to 25 guys.

A knock came at my door.

It was Theo.

"Hi Adeline," he said.

"Hi. We should talk," I said.

"Oh?" He said.

I sat down on my bed and he sat down next to me.

"So the kiss the other day was inappropriate. I mean I shouldn't have lead you on. After all, I am in a competition for marriage," I said.

He looked at me with his sad hazel eyes. His smile turned into a sad frown.

"Hey don't look at me like that," I said.

"Adeline I love you. And I can never walk away from you," he said looking into my eyes.

"Theo... the kiss the other night can't happen again," I said.
~~~~~~~~~~
A knock came at my door.
"Come in," I called out.
Marie came inside with an envelope.
"It's from Adrian Davis," she said with a sigh.
"He's really handsome isn't he?" I said.
"Yes. And very polite too," she pointed out.
I opened the envelope. It was a teal color. There was a white card inside.
Dear Adeline, I am requesting to meet with you tomorrow afternoon in the rose garden for lunch. Please reply to this letter.
I hope to win your heart.
~Adrian
I got a piece of stationary paper that had a silver crescent moon on the top and wrote:
Adrian
I would love to have lunch with you tomorrow. I'll see you soon
~Adeline
I folded it up and gave it to Marie to give to Adrian.
I had no doubt that Marie would read it as soon as she was on her way but I didn't care. I was feeling butterflies in my stomach.
Adrian was the first guy to request to see me and not the other way around. Dating was hard. But dating 25 guys was even harder.
A knock came at my door. Not again...
"Theo can you please leave me alone—" I started but I realized it wasn't Theo who knocked. It was Carter.
"Excuse me Miss Ravenwood. But I have new security regulations I have to review with you," he said.
"Oh of course," I recovered.
"May I come inside?" He asked. I nodded. He came inside.
"The king has ordered that the guards do rounds inside the palace. And he requested more guards inside the palace. There will be a guard posted at the gentlemens' rooms. And there will be a guard posted at your door," Carter said.
"Well I'm not too thrilled. But I'm okay with these regulations," I said.
"These are precautions since we don't want the rebels to hurt anyone, especially you Princess," he inquired.
"Thank you," I said.
"I'm one of the guards put on the rotation that will be posted at your door. You will barely notice me. And in the case of an attack on the palace I or the guard posted is to escort you to the royal chamber," Carter continued.
I nodded.
I noticed that Carter had grey eyes. His lashes were curved and his hair was dark.
Wait. Why am I checking Carter out? He's a guard. And I'm in a competition for marriage. And I'm pretty sure Carter would never like me.. wait why am I thinking about marriage? Why am I thinking about Carter?...
