James, Isaac, and Liam. The names echoed in my head.
I knocked on Liam's door. He opened the door and greeted me with a smile.
"Adeline," he said.
"Hi Liam. Can I come in?" I asked.
"Sure," he said opening the door widely.
I sat on his bed and he sat next to me.
"Liam I want to be fair and honest with you," I said calmly.
I took a deep breathe.
"It's okay. You can say it," he said.
"Wait you knew?" I asked.
"Yes," he sighed.
"I didn't want to get your hopes up. But there's no spark," I said.
"I wish you the best of luck," he said. "Some of those guys are in love with you and some are in love with the crown."
I raised an eyebrow not sure if that was true.
"Thank you for your time and dedication," I said softly.
"Thank you Adeline for everything," he said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~I knocked on Isaacs door next.
Isaac teared up a bit when I told him. I walked out awkwardly. James was angry when I told him.
"How will I win your heart if you don't give me a chance!" He shouted.
"I gave you time," I said.
"Not enough for you to love me!" He exclaimed.
A guard came. It was Carter.
"Is there something wrong?" He asked.
"No everything's just peachy!" James exclaimed sarcastically as he stormed out.
"Your timing is impeccable," I said. "Thanks."
"Your welcome," he said. "Did he give you much trouble?"
"Some. But hey you're out of the hospital wing!" I exclaimed.
"Yes," he chuckled. "Almost as good as new. I was given some pain killers."
"Do you wanna take a break? We could go to the roof garden?" I asked.
"Sure," he said.
We walked to the roof. As Carter sat down he groaned in pain.
It was a cloudy day.
"Adeline," he said. "I have feelings for you."
There was a pause.
"I like you too Carter," I confessed.
"I'm being sent to the headquarters that we have North," he said.
"Why?!" I exclaimed.
"Adeline we both know we can't be together. And being here—watching you date and kiss other guys is killing me everyday," he said with pain in his voice.
"I could cancel the whole thing and we could be together," I said.
"No Adeline I can't let you do that," he said.
"Carter you can't leave me," I gasped.
"Goodbye Adeline," he said. He kissed my forehead and walked away.
I felt a horrible pain in my chest. I couldn't breathe. It felt like the air was knocked out of my lungs. I gasped for air. I started sobbing.
And that's what it felt like to have my heart broken.
