"You will never guess who I saw the other day while I was working." Marcel said to Kelsey to was casually perched on the other side of Marcel’s couch. She had come knocking on his door, bored out of her mind and in need for some company. And who was Marcel to deny her request?
"Hmm?" Kelsey asked, not seeming all too interested in the conversation Marcel was cautious to start. She had one leg sprawled out onto the plush surface while the other was cocked slightly at the knee. Her eyes didn’t leave the t.v. screen as Marcel spoke his simple statement.
Marcel turned around to look at Kelsey, and in result her eyes flickered to his before returning lazily to the comedy show the screen was displaying.
"I ran into your brother at Walmart."
"Did you, now?" Kelsey asked, nonchalantly. However, her heart skipped a beat, remembering the heated discussion she had had with Will the previous night involving the last person she wanted him to be acquainted with.
"Did he, you know, say anything?" Kelsey asked, remaining calm as she turned her gaze upon the boy sitting on the floor in front of her. Marcel shrugged and turned back around. "He said hi if that’s what you mean."
Kelsey internally breathed a huge sigh of relief. She mentally slapped herself once again for telling not only her brother but her parents as well who Marcel really was. Mr. Lynch was right. If anyone knew it would turn around and bite her right in the butt. That’s exactly what it was doing.
"So how are you two doing now that you are," He shrugged. "Reunited or however you want to put it?"
In the moment that Kelsey paused, she took it as a chance to study Marcel. His back was to her, and he was leaning up against the couch that she was on. She took note of no matter how much gel he attempted to put in his hair to flatten it out, the ends always curled in result to its natural state.
Marcel hadn’t noticed, but over the time he had been in Minnesota his skin had been brought a little more color as if it were a result of him being more lively. His jaw was also not as clenched as it had been before when he seemed to be angry at anything and everything in the world whether it had a pulse or not. His shoulders were also a bit more relaxed and free of tension.
"We’re fine. Watched some movies last night and talked for a while." She breathed.
Marcel glanced back at her, offering a crooked smile. He really did want Kelsey to start to have a better relationship with her family again. He made the mistake of shutting his family out once, and he didn’t want her to be burdened with the same mistake. “That’s good.”
When Kelsey didn’t respond, Marcel turned back around to face the t.v. and pretended like he was actually listening to the chatter coming from it. He had grown so tired of just sitting around. He hadn’t been counting how many movies he had watched over the last few weeks, but basically any time he wasn’t working or sleeping he was watching some sort of television display. And he was absolutely sick of it. He sighed quite audibly before jumping to his feet.
"Kelsey!" He yelled.
She just stared at him, playful confusion etched into her expression. “Marcel?” She yelled back, but her voice rose slightly at the end, making it more of a question.
"We need to do something fun!" He shouted dramatically. Kelsey’s expression didn’t change, and neither did her position.
"Kels…" Marcel whined in a high pitched tone.
"I’ve just grown quite fond of this lovely couch, my dear friend. It fits my lazy ass perfectly and it has decided it doesn’t want to let me go."
