For 3 girls that never wear dresses or skirts or anything along those lines, dress shopping was extremely weird, but we got gorgeous Homecoming dresses. Gemma got a pink floor-length gown with 1 pink lace strap that goes on her right shoulder. Lace covers the whole gown and strips of pink sparkles. Elane got a dress that’s strapless and stops just above her knee. It’s skin-tight across her chest and the rest of the dress puffs out. The colors are mainly blues, greens, and purples. My dress has slashes of different shades of purple. It’s skin-tight, strapless, and covered in lace with more shades of purple.

For the shoes, we all just went with black stilettos, but each pair is slightly different. Gemma’s are just black with nothing special on them. Elane’s have a strap and a bow on 1 side. Mine have a strap and black, flower-print lace pulled across the shoe. Before we leave the mall, we stop at Starbucks and buy smoothies.

I check the time as soon as we get into my car. 11:30. Ugh! 6 and ½ hours until my date with Henry. Time needs to hurry up and go by.

“Want to go see a movie while we’re in town?” I ask Gemma and Elane.

“Why don’t we just go to the theater in town?” Gemma asks.

“I’ve seen all 3 movies that are in and there’s a better movie selection here.”

“I’m cool with a movie,” Elane says.

“Me too, I guess,” Gemma says.

I start to drive towards the movie theater. “So, what movie should we see?” I ask.

“Any horror movies out that you guys know of?” Elane asks.

            “There’s one, but I’ve heard it’s shit.”

“You heard the new Evil Dead was shit, too, but was it?”

            “No.”

“Okay then. What’s the movie called?”

“It’s that new Paranormal Activity movie.”

“I vote for that!” Elane says excitedly.

            “Same here,” Gemma agrees.

            “Alright,” I reply.

I turn on some music and we jam out the rest of the way to the theater. We get our tickets, some candy, and a slushie and go find some seats. I watch the movie, without watching the movie. I stare up at the screen, but I’m not really paying attention. I’m too busy thinking about Henry and last night. But with the thought of last night comes the thought of me going to his house and with the thought of me going to his house comes the thought of why I went to his house and my dream slowly creeps back to the main part of my brain from the deep dark corners that I’ve shoved it into all day.

Henry was gone. Everyone was gone. I was alone. Henry came back, only to slip through my fingers. I was alone, again. “2 weeks.” Was my dream some kind of sign? Is something terrible going to happen in 2 weeks? Is something going to fill me with the hate that I’ve only been full of once before? The hate from the dream where Samolio first showed up? Am I going to lose Henry?

“Dam?” Elane shakes my arm violently.

“What?” I look up at her, quizzically.
