It can’t be. He’s not real. He’s just part of my imagination. I must be seeing things. Am I dreaming, right now? I pinch my arm. It hurts. I’m awake. I look back up at him. Why’s he looking at me like he’s confused?

“Hello, Mrs. Stevens. This is Henry Davis. He’s in your class, this year. He’s new and didn’t know where your class was, so I showed him, but I figured I’d let you know that that is why he’s late.” The principal says.

“Alright. Henry, go ahead and take that seat back there next to Damzel.” She points at me.

We stare at each other with shocked looks on our faces. Does he recognize me? Is that why he looked confused a little bit ago and now shocked? Is this really the Henry Davis from my dreams? I am so confused.

“Yes ma’am,” he says, walking towards the seat to my right.

We hold each other’s gazes until he takes his seat and Mrs. Stevens starts talking, again. I look away first because I feel creepy, but I can still feel the heat throughout my body, so I know he’s still looking at me. I turn my head to face him and our eyes lock. I don’t really know what to do, so I give a nervous smile and he turns away. I can’t tell if he’s embarrassed or if he turned away for some other reason, but I turn to face the teacher, again.

I look up at the clock to see how much time I have left in this class. A rush of cold fills my body and I know Aiden is watching me, now. I look in his direction. The second our eyes lock, I turn my head back to the front of the class room. A couple minutes later, I get hit in the side of the head with something. I look down to where it fell and see it’s a balled up piece of paper. I pick up the paper and open it to see if there’s anything written on it. There is. I read the sloppy hand writing on it.

“Leave me the fuck alone this year. Got it?” It’s from Aiden.

“I only wanted to know what had happened between us and why you broke up with me. This year, I’ll be avoiding you as much as possible. Now, don’t write back and stop watching me.” I throw it back to him.

The cold feeling throughout my body is gone for a minute, but only because he’s reading the note. Once he’s done, the cold is back. I sit in class and stare at the clock. Why is this class so long? It needs to hurry up.

The bell rings and I’m the first up and out the door. I rush to my locker. When I get there, I look down the hall to see if any of my friends are nearby. Of course, none of them are, but I see Henry walking my way. Is he coming to talk to me? I feel the warmth and our eyes lock. I can’t read his face. Does he recognize me? No way. He can’t. He’s getting closer. He stops at the locker right next to mine. Of course. He was heading to his locker. Why would he talk to me? Stupid! I grab a notebook from my locker. I should talk to him or something. I turn to face him.

“Hi. I’m Damzel, but you already know that from the last class. Umm… what class do you have next? I might be able to help you get to it if you don’t know where it is.” I give another nervous smile and rub the back of my neck.
