~Emi's POV~
I was running in the forest by my house. The immortals killed my parents, and they were soon to catch up to me any second.
That was when I saw a small cottage in the distance. I ran up to it and frantically knocked on the door.
"Please, someone, are you in there?! Please, the immortals are going to kill me and I—"
The door opened and an old lady came out. She looked down at me and tilted her head.
"Where do you come from, dear? Where is your mom and dad?" She asked me with her sweet voice.
"My mommy and daddy were killed by immortals." I said, tearing up.
"Oh, poor honey...come on in." The lady said as she let me inside. It was a small cottage with just a kitchen, a table and chair, a bed, and a bathroom. I sat in the chair and looked up at her.
"Will they find us?"
"Don't worry, I put strong magics around the house so that they can't see it."
"Are you immortal?"
"No, not all magic users are immortal. But then again, not all immortals are terrible. You just happened to run into the wrong pack."
"Oh...okay." I said.
"Do you have any other family members, dear?"
"N-no...they were all killed."
"Oh...I'm so sorry." She stroked my straight blonde hair.
"I'm hungry."
"O-oh...I see then. Hold up, I'll make you a sandwich." The old lady said as she went into the kitchen area.
Mommy and Daddy are dead....I won't see them again...ever.
I cried. The lady came back and hugged me.
"Shh, don't worry, I'll be your mommy from now on..."
I woke up.
Aunt Doles...it's been so long. 4 years since she passed...it seems like so much more.
That was when Cleo went barging into my room.
"Emi wake up!!! It's 7:40, we have 20 minutes to get to school!" He said. Shit.
"Oh no...hold up, I'll be right there, get your shoes on." I said as I quickly grabbed my outfit.
<timeskip>
"Cya bud." I said as I stopped in front of the elementary school.
"Bye!" Cleo said as he ran over to a group of kids his age. Haha, he made friends already, so much different from me...
~Cleo's POV~
After I got off of Emi's bike, I went over to Dylan, Trevor, Rick, and Caroline.
"Hi guys." I said. Everyone except Caroline waved. She was on the ground, with bruises all over her body. I looked down at her.
"Awe, you guys had fun without me?" I said.
"You were late, so yeah. Sorry." Dylan said.
"It's okay," I pushed Caroline back on the ground and kicked her in the stomach. "I can have all the fun I want now that I'm here. Isn't that right...human?"
~Emi's POV~
I ran into class as the bell rang. A couple of people giggled, but I ignored him. It was Social Studies, and I took a seat next to Mal.
"H-hi..." I said. She was too busy glaring at the bitches. She nodded.
"Okay class! Today, we are going to be going outside to learn about the history of the Evelyn Rivers statue! We all know that she is the founder of this school, but there is much more to learn about it! So please follow me outside." The teacher said. Honestly, I hate Evelyn Rivers. She was the first person to make a diverse school (meaning that any creature can go to the same school, unlike Hugo's all human school)
"Ugh fuck Social Studies, I want to ditch." Mal said.
"Don't ditch, you'll get in so much trouble!" I said.
"I know that, I wasn't actually going to do it, freshman. Geez."
"O-oh, sorry."
"Whatever." Mal said as she walked out of the classroom with the rest. I followed.
We were outside and looking at the Evelyn Rivers statue when Mal all of the sudden walked away from the crowd. I quickly followed her.
"What are you doing?" I asked. Mal put her finger to my mouth.
"Hush." She slowly walked over to a pair of bushes and pushed them apart to reveal a small kitten. Its right paw seemed to be hurt. Mal slowly picked the creature up and pet it. It purred in her hands. Then, she ripped a part of her sleeve and wrapped it around the paw.
"There." She said as she let go of the kitten, as it ran back to its mom who was waiting silently by a tree.
"Wow, I never knew you were...whats the word...caring?" I said, afraid I might of offended her. She simply brushed her hair out of her face and huffed.
"Whatever freshman."
"Maleficent! Emily! What are you doing over there come back here!" It was the teacher.
"Coming!" I said as I grabbed Mal's hand and ran towards the crowd of students.
They didn't even bother laugh at me for Mal was glaring at them.
<timeskip>
After school, I went to the elementary school to pick Cleo up.
I saw him with a girl about his age. She had wavy brown hair, glasses, and freckles. She was curled up against a tree and crying. Cleo noticed me and came running towards me.
"Hi Emi!" He said as he hopped on.
"Hi...why is that girl crying over there?" I asked.
"Oh Caroline? She lost her pencil and it was apparently really important to her. I was just helping her out." He said.
"Oh, okay." I looked over to the girl again. She had bruises everywhere. Unless she ran into a truck while searching for her pencil, I don't see why there would be that many bruises on her.
He's lying...
