Hours passed. To keep myself from being anxious I ignored the clocked and focused on my homework. French 1, Biology, Algebra 2. I focused on it painfully hard until the clock finally hit 3:15 am. Finally …it’s all over. We survived the whole week.
We all went outside standing in the front yard and there he appeared out of block smoke from the ground. I took a step forward in front of Alex, Conny and Trevor.
He stood staring at us and said “You have survived hell week. As promised, I shall revive your mother.”
I smiled at him and replied “No…we’ve changed our minds. We’ve been just fine without our birth parents. I don’t think I’m meant to know her…but you…”
I got close enough, my body filled with loving emotions but once I got close enough he turned away and replied “You foolish girl. The Grim reaper could never fall for a mortal.”
I stood there in shock with my mouth wide open and shouted back “You’re lying! You love me Chris!”
He looked back at my with darkness rising off of him shouting back “Chris is DEAD! You want to embrace death?”
“Yes!” I shouted back
He opened his hand for me to take it and as my friends yelled at me but all I could hear was him say “Then give me your soul…”
“Don’t!” Alex shouted
“Trixy!” Conny called
“Stupid!” Trevor called
He turned his back on me and the last thing he said before disappearing was “The game is over”
My friends watched as I pathetically cried at his feet as he faded away. Alex pulled me back as I dramatically screamed “No! This can’t be happening!”
“Trixy!” Conny shouted while slapping me
Mr. Peterson showed up in the yard and noticed us “Alexandra?” he said
Alex noticed her parents back in their normal state unable to speak. She ran to her mom and hugged her and said in Japanese “Ohisashiburi” (translate: Long time no see)
“Nani?” her dad replied confused (translate: What?)
Mr. Peterson noticed me crying and said in English “Why is Beatrix crying and who is this boy over so late at night?” said Mr. Peterson
Trevor waved while walking off slightly nervous. “Hello! I’m Alex’s new boyfriend Trevor. I wanted to meet you but I should head home and see if my parents, brother and sister are okay” he said
I got up off the ground holding in the rest of my tears “Sorry Mr. and Mrs. Peterson. I’m fine. I’ll head home now”
We watched suspiciously as walked away then looked at Alex
“Uh-oh…” Alex said under her breath knowing she had a lot to explain.
As he walked in the house he said in a firm voice “Hanashi ga arundakedo” (translate: I want to have a word with you)
Conny ran to her house which mas next to mine replying “Goodnight!”
“Goodnight!” I replied to her
I opened my house door running up the stairs to my room but my parents noticed me and called back
“Beatrix?”
I looked back at them seeing my mom letting down her hair scolding me “What are you doing up so late?”
Without a word I ran back down the stairs embracing my mother which surprised her. I looked update her with tears in my eyes and said “I know I’ve never said this, but thank you for taking me in when my real mother wouldn’t. This past week I’ve really had a wakeup call”
