Later that day everyone was fussing about Melony's whereabouts and the mysterious night. The sky was still dark, but the candles lit again, giving us light. It's been a whole day and it's still dark outside. The sicknesses became worse and worse. I didn't feel myself knowing that Mel was missing.
"Madame?" I said to Professer Smith. "Yes, Dear." She responded back to me as she braided my hair.
She pulled my hair to far.
"Ouch."
"It wouldn't hurt if you hadn't been so stubborn and stayed still." She scolded at me.
"Have you seen mother?"
"I haven't seen the queen since the disappearance of your sister, May." She told me, "You've already asked me this." Madame reminded me, combing my hair with one of her hands. I sighed, "I know. I'm just so anxious." I chose not to tell her what had happened yesterday, since she'd not believe me.
"Have you ever heard of a woman in owl armor, whom is a queen of evil from another realm?" Slipped out my mouth. She thought a moment. "Another dream of yours, I assume?"
No.
"Yes."
"Not that I know of. You may find some information in the library." She tied my hair with a sapphire blue ribbon matching my crown.
I got up and left right away without a word not looking back. "Where are you going, child?!" She called but received nothing back.
I looked at books for hours upon hours with barely any luck. In did come across unique books. Something about them separated themselves from the others.
The leather book with green, blue, and red jewels spoke of another realm. What intrigued me was that the realm was called, The Matheneya Realm. Apparently, the emeralds on the book stood for the Forest Region, while the blue was for the Winter Region. Alas, the red was of the Dark Region. The Dark Region was ruled by Queen Eleanor - also known as: Queen of the Dark Arts. She practiced curses and spells. She became so powerful, that she was able to create her own army out of volcano ashes and gave herself a kingdom.
The Forest Region protected the world with their plants, bordering across the lands. The Winter Region and Forest Region's subjects were elfs, fairies, wizards, witches, sprites, pixies, nymphs, and mermaids. The Dark Region was of the same things except that it had trolls, giants, skeletons, and dark angels. It was at war with The Winter Region and The Forest Region.
I couldn't open the second book which had a golden lock on it. I'm not sure why I kept it, but something spoke out to me.
After my successful search for info I still wanted more. I skipped all the way to the west tower of the castle so that I could find anything in the attic. This was where the servants lived. I saw babies being cradled by their mother and a lack of food. Seeing people like this made my heart sink and shred to pieces. It was my favorite place to play with Dell and Rose. We'd be running around here giggling. We were treated like their own children and the women would laugh as they saw us hide under the small tables and benches where Polly used to feed us fresh chicken pies, broth soup, and loafs of bread.
While I was walking up the tower, I diddle with my wavy pitch black hair as I read, "The only way the reach the realm is by the ancient mirror. The great mirror has seen all. It's stone carved so light. It's beauty beholds inside with might. The mirror holds great memory, created so bright.' Only magic beings shall be let through the other side." I continued further, "But beware; its beasts will always be there." What did it mean? "Alas, if only proven kind or evil, shall anyone pass."
"A STONE MIRROR!" I let escape my lips, to busy to care that everyone stare at me. I ran as fast as I could with all my might to the old mirror from when I was younger that Father had told me off. I almost tripped on my dress from running.
Panting like a dog in the hot summer sun, I place my hand on the wall, leaning on it lazily. I spot the mirror from the corner of my eye. I jump to it and fall of my dress and swiftly catching myself to avoid further disaster.
"Mayyyy." A voice hissed and whispered. It echoes over and over again. I look around me and discover I was alone.
I stand up in curiosity and fear. I glare an my reflection. My own reflection looks at me up and down. I look away, suddenly looking back as I realized what just occurred. I stare at the strange reflection which was now staying still with a confused expression. My reflection's face becomes sour. I gasp, about to scream, "A-" my reflection covers my mouth. "Who are you?" I stutter with shivers down my spine.
"I'm you, May."
"You can't be. I'm May."
"I know."
I touch her cheek to see if she's real. I don't feel skin, I feel.......Water?
"Do you have courage in your heart?" The other May bitterly asks me. "I don't know."
"Are you a good person, May?" She sounds as if she were criticizing me. She threw more and more words at me that repeat themselves over and over inside my head. "I'm doing this for my kingdom." I whisper to May, "Because I love my people. Please," I begged, "I don't want to rule like my mother and father."
The reflection turns ordinary again, just a normal reflection. I thought about the riddle again, "But beware; its beasts will always be there." That meant the reflection. "Alas, if only proven kind or evil, shall anyone pass." I had told her that I love my kingdom and that I didn't want to be selfish and cold like how my parents were! With both books, I climb into the mirror, ready for my journey through.
