"C'mon, keep up Kreis you slow-coach," Joked Arya," You're holding us back," She teased. We were jogging back to the hideout; Arya was giving Maria a piggyback and I just couldn't umderstand where she found the energy to do it.
Suddenly our radio that I had forgotten about buzzed, "Hello? You there Arya? This is Paul, do you copy?"
We both jumped up and instantly replied, "Paul, yes we copy, we copy. No success on recruiting I'm afraid," I answered, "The survivors we found were hostile, tried to kill us. What about you?"
"Oh boy, did we find survivors. Got a small army with us, heading back now."
I grinned, glad that one of us had succeeded, "Got it, meet you there."
The sun began to set and the moon take over, it was eerily silent. This kind of silence reminded me of before the outbreak, how me and my friends would be talking a tonne then suddenly all go quiet randomly then burst out laughing for no reason whatsoever, those were good times. But those times were gone now, everything has changed now.
"I'm hungry," Maria moaned. "I haven't eaten in millions and millions of years! I'm hungry!"
Arya smiled sweetly, "Here, have this," she said, offering a breakfast bar, what little food we had left on us.
"Look! Over there!" I called, there was a fire spreading at alarming rate, it was pretty close to our base. I heard  gunshots pierce the air and shouts of pain. What the hell was going on?! I glanced at Arya, her face was grim, and grabbed the radio, "Paul, emergency, oh my freaking god? Can you hear me? Paul? Are you ok? Is Alicia safe?" I spluttered desperately.
"Bad timing, being shot at. Come quick, over, quick. Alicia was shot and injured, hurry!"
Frick, I told Arya what was going on and we both agreed we had to help them somehow, we told Maria to hide in this building and that we'd come back for her and we took off running.              The shots roared louder as we neared, more and more screams echoed throughout, I wasn't sure who was being shot, us or them. Whoever them might be... "Catch," Arya whispered as she threw a matching gun to me with some ammunition.
"How the frick do I use this thing?" I demanded.
"Point and shoot, pull that thing to get the mag out and put this in there," she replied absentmindidly, probably worried about Alicia. We climbed up the buildings towards the fire before we saw what was really going on. There was a huge horde of men and women on the ground being shot at, I saw Paul and Alicia there along with about twenty other men, most of them armed. On the rooftops of where our base once was, was an inferno of smoke and a smaller group of about fifteen heavily geared men firing down at them.
The sight of these people heartlessly slaughtering other's sickened me, without thinking I climbed up a few more buildings, my arms beginning to fail me, and launched a volley of bullets at those scumbags, they returned the favour. Quickly I ducked beneath a small ventilation pipe and hid as Arya appeared behind me, "Are you crazy?! At least tell me before you go run off and kill yourself!" But that was the least of my worries.
I sensed something was wrong, well, even wronger than what was happening above all, and I was right. The sky darkened, all well and good for me and Arya, but our friends on the floor? Alicia was injured, how could she climb up? The screams that signalled hell arose, was it too late?
We had to do something! But what could we do? "Arya, I have an idea,"
"Please do elaborate, preferably before all our friends are torn apart and eaten," She said, sarcastically and obviously distraught then after I explained, "That might just work..." Ok, so we had a plan, we just had to hurry up now, Paul looked tired and Alicia seemed still from above. This was a suicide trip, but a suicide trip that might save our friends.
I leaped down to the ground, almost breaking my legs and Paul almost killed me, "Holy shoot, you came! I need a hand with Alicia, she's badly injured it's Ike, he took over when we went, burnt everything stole our stuff and -" I cut him off with a wave of a hand and explained to him what to do.
"Simple, huh? All you gotta do is get all those people on that building over there, Arya and I have got the rest covered," He argued and said he had to help us but I already took off, running to the creatures I was trying to get away from, what a genius I was. In spite of everything,  this still felt like one of those zombie horror games with cheesy graphics and like I was headed to a boss battle or something, only this game had no respawn button.
I fired a few shots in the air to draw the attention of the Reavers then taunted them, waving my sword around, half hoping they would all run away in fear, pfft, as if. Ok, so they were drawn to me, easy part done. Now I climbed up another building, they followed me and almost caught up to me, I kept running and jumping, I leapt up one building to the next until I was pretty high, almost there, I thought. My legs grew weary and I faultered on my jump, slipping off and landing thud on the balcony roof of what was once someone's home. My head went dizzy but I couldn't give up now, I had a job to do, uhm... What was it? Oh yeah, up there, towards death. More clinging and swinging up buildings. Fire, fire... Gotta go towards that smoke, almost there. Volleys of bullets sweeped the ground around me, was I crazy!? Running towards bullets, Reavers behind me?
Well, obviously I was. I jumped onto the roof of what was oncd our hideout, still being hunted down. Almost, almost. A Reaver lunged  forwards, its guts dribbling out of its mouth, a gutteral scream which by know I figured to be its way of saying "Free meat for you to eat buddy,". A few more lunged forwards threateningly but made no actual advancement. I smelt the rancid meat hang on its body, rotting away. I think, think this might just work. I took a careful step back then jumped off the roof, down to where the men were and let hell loose.
God, this was gonna be painful.
