Howls pierced the night sky and the Reavers spilled into the city. I, however, was stuck on the top shelf in the pants isle, which, by the way was completely devoid of any remaining pants. This was just great, I could run for it? But that might end horribly, my visions of seeing what those beasts could do sobered me up and compelled me to think straight.
Ok, so they didn't see me yet, I could sneak away but the second I leave the shop I'd be torn apart head to toe. Ok, what did I have? A small dagger, but weapons did nothing to those things, a few snacks like gum, a bottle of water and a half working torch I'd found. I crouched and slowly made my way down, suddenly I heard a head snap and face towards me. The eye sockets were bleeding, its face torn apart and an assortment of weapons ingrained in its body. It let loose a shrilling cry and instantaneously the night stood still.
I felt dozens of eyes turn to me, and my life flashed before me. It was now or never, time to run. I jumped up, diving across the floor, ruining my shirt with vile blood, and jumped through the window to avoid the hordes of Reaver's blocking the door. One jumped at my foot but I grabbed my dagger and stabbed its arm over and over until his bloodied arm fell off, leaving nothing but strange sticky liquids. It reached with its other arm and I realised I couldn't win in a fight I had to run.
Dashing through the shady alleyways, I dodged through the turnings but they were everywhere, sprinting forwards, a Reaver lunged down from a rooftop tripping me up. I scrambled up and darted as fast as I could to a building, jumped up and began climbing. Oh wait, did I not tell you? Yeah, I do - did, parkour before all this, nothing fancy, just climbing and jumping up stuff; turns out that it pretty much saved my life.
Up on the safety of the roof, I catch my breath whilst the Reavers slowly tumbled up to me. I don't have long, I muttered to myself, gotta run, gotta run. I leapt up to the next building, grabbing a rusting bar and, almost taking me down with it, the bar fell down to the hellish floor. I looked around, nothing but bodies, Reavers and blood. I was lost. Did I take the jump to my right? Or scale higher over there? I had to take my chances, I started running towards the edge before jumping to a lower roof, jump kicking a Reaver to the floor then kept dashing towards the next building, vaulting over floored Reavers and pipes. I looked down and reached a dead end, beneath me was the ground, far far down and all around me, bloated, Reavers, their skin falling apart and huge bulging warts everywhere.
Half their bones poked out above their skin and dried blood stuck to it, dead people's organs hanging out of their mouth. Well, I sure knew which way I was taking, I jumped down the side, sliding down the wall and slowing myself down as best as I could before slipping and almost knocking myself out on the floor. My head went fuzzy and I see even more circling me before a loud thud erupts, my eyes begin to fade and I hear shouting... If I just lay here, what will happen? Voices! I'm drifting away but the sound of people sobers me, I have to get away, who are these people?
I'm not dead yet so those Reavers must have been incapacitated or ran away, I slowly rise up, half dead to be treated with 5 men holding weapons at me. "For goodness sakes... Seriously guys? I was just freaking chased by those Reavers and now you treat me like this?" I sighed.
Surprisingly one of the men replied,"Those were some serious skills kid, we could use someone like you, you'd get a place to live and warm food from us. All you gotta do is do that every night, lead em 'Reavers' away from people kid,".
Was he kidding? Do this? Every night? As if, couldn't tell him that though, otherwise I was useless to him. "Uhm... Right? And thats supposed to be easy huh?" I halfheartedly said looking for a way out.
I had an idea, I just needed to get ready to... And, I was almost ready. Just had to get a little closer... I screamed as loud as I could, instantly 2 Reavers pounced and I darted inbetween the men, and yet again, began running. Most of the Reavers were preoccupied with those 5 men but the odd one lunged at me and I would viciously stab it with my weapon.
My legs felt like lead, and I grew weary... The night sky began to clear away and with the day coming, the beasts seemed to hide away into the darkness almost instantly. I trudged around before taking a bearing and locating my hideout. Nothing much important had come out of that excursion except the wisdom of idiocy. Now, was the time to rest, I had survived the first night.
