The next few days pass by quickly. Everyone is excited and relieved that Stiles will be able to leave the hospital on Friday. Scott promises his mom that he will take good care of him and will make sure that nothing like this will never happen again. Melissa is proud of Scott and how selfless he can be. She notices that Stiles has brought that side of Scott out a lot more, which she is happy about. Scott is almost always at the hospital. He will be there before school, after school and on weekends. Stiles tells him to go home and have some time to himself, but Scott refuses. He wants to be there for his boyfriend, no matter what. Stiles is flattered by Scott's loyalty. He really is glad to have him in his life. Stiles' father and other friends visit a lot too, of course. Stiles takes the time to get to know Lydia, Allison, Kira and Liam better. He's happy to say that he has grown closer to them over the time he has spent with them in hospital. Doctor Trent is happy with Stiles' recovery. He has told the teenager that he is very lucky to not have any permanent brain damage or any other serious injuries. His ribs are fully healed, his cuts are healing and fading away, his lip has healed and the bruising has vanished as well. Stiles is relieved to have both of his eyes back again, once the swelling of his black eye has died down and disappeared completely. Stiles is reminded that he needs to take extra care in the next few weeks, just in case anything happens. Stiles is counting down the days until he can finally leave this place. It doesn't hold too many fond memories for him here, considering his mother died here, Stiles was in a coma for a month here and Stiles was almost killed here while he was in recovery. That would probably put anyone off hospitals. Stiles isn't particularly looking forward to going back to school, but his friends have been keeping him up to date with what they are learning in class, especially Lydia. Stiles is grateful for that. Playing catch up at school is the worst.
On the Thursday night, the night before he is able to be released, Stiles tosses and turns in this hospital bed, gripping the bed sheets tightly. His heart starts racing against his chest. "No... No... Scott... I need Scott..." Stiles mumbles in his sleep as he turns over once more.
Pain. That is the first and only thing that Stiles can feel when he starts to regain consciousness. It feels like he has just been in a deep sleep, yet he feels completely drained of all energy. Stiles' eyes feel heavy, as does the rest of his body. He can hear the humming and beeping of machines around him. He suddenly feels something in his mouth that goes down his throat. Stiles starts to panic, not knowing what it is or what it is doing there. Where was he anyway? It hurts for Stiles to breathe, which only makes Stiles feel more panicked. He can hear the faint sound of voices from somewhere. What is going on? Slowly, Stiles manages to opens his left eye (as his other eye was swollen shut), only to be greeted by a blinding white light, hurting Stiles' eye. Stiles tries to move a little, but his body feels like lead, so all he manages to do is tilt his head in a slightly different direction. Stiles breathes in sharply, his heart racing against his chest. The beeping on what Stiles assumes must be a heart monitor gets faster. Where is he? What is he doing here? Where's Scott? He needs to see Scott. His boyfriend and that amazing smile of his were the only things on Stiles' mind at this point. He had to see him. He had to know that he was okay.
He hears people rush into the room, their nervous voices filling Stiles' ears. Stiles winces at the noise. Everything sounds too loud, too harsh. Suddenly, faces appear above him, one of them being Melissa's. "Stiles, honey, can you hear me? Stiles?" Melissa asks, her voice seeming to bounce around in Stiles' head. Stiles is still completely confused and disorientated about where he is and how he got here. Some other people start asking Stiles questions, but he barely hears them. The thing in his mouth feels really uncomfortable and Stiles wants it out. Stiles clutches the bed sheets tightly. He must be on a bed then, if he is clutching bed sheets. Melissa leans over Stiles a bit more, running a hand through the boy's hair in an attempt to calm him down. "It's okay, Stiles. You're okay. You're safe. You're in a hospital." Melissa tells Stiles calmly. Stiles' eyes widen slightly, pain still flowing through him, especially in his chest as he breathes. "Take the tube out of his mouth, I don't think he needs the ventilator anymore." Melissa instructs someone beside her. They nod and do as they told. Once the tube is out of Stiles' mouth, he gasps in relief. However, he still doesn't know how he got to the hospital. The last thing he remembers was being beaten up at school by Jackson and his two cronies. "Scott. I want to see Scott." Is the first thing that comes out of Stiles' mouth, his voice raspy.
"Where's Scott?" Stiles asks the people in the room. Stiles thinks that Scott is the only one that will be able to calm him down right now. Once he sees Scott, he knows that everything will be okay. "I need to see him. I need to see my boyfriend." Stiles continues with his voice cracking a little as tears form in his eyes and his bottom lip starts to tremble. Melissa holds onto Stiles' hand and grasps them tightly. "Shh, don't strain yourself, it's okay. Don't worry, Scott is fine. He's at school right now, but I'm sure he will come racing down to the hospital as soon as he can once he knows that you're awake. You'll be able to see him very soon, I promise." Melissa assures the disorientated and scared boy. Stiles nods slightly, starting to relax a little. "Scott will be so thrilled that you're awake, as will your dad and the rest of your friends." Melissa smiles at the teenager comfortingly.
"Everything is going to be okay, I promise. You're safe now." Melissa says as she squeezes Stiles' hand in comfort.
Stiles wakes up with a gasp, sitting upright. He finds himself drenched in sweat. He looks around him in fright for a second. After a few moments, Stiles relaxes and runs a hand over his face as he groans. Thank god it was only a nightmare. A scary one though. Stiles wished that he would never have to relive the moment where he finally woke up from that coma. It was a terrifying experience that people will never fully understand if Stiles tries to explain it to them unless they have been through it themselves. He lets his hand drop to his side and he looks around the dark room for a few moments. He almost expects Jackson to jump from somewhere and try to kill him again, maybe succeeding this time. Stiles shudders at the thought. The sooner he gets out of here, the better.
Tears start to prickle in Stiles' eyes. Stiles wishes he wasn't alone here in this room. He wishes that his dad was here. Or Melissa. Or Scott. Or any of his other friends. However, that's not the case. Visitors aren't allowed here at 1am anyway. As for Melissa, she isn't working a late shift tonight, which Stiles understands completely. Melissa does need some time to rest. Stiles sniffles and quickly wipe the tears away. He takes a deep breath to calm himself. The beeping of the heart monitor is starting to get on Stiles' nerves, but he tries to block it out. Slowly, Stiles lies back down on the bed, closing his eyes. Stiles hopes that he never has that dream again. It's not a moment in his life that he likes reliving. Stiles can't even remember being in a coma. One moment, he was on the ground trying to protect himself from Jackson in his friends and in the next moment, he wakes up in hospital disorientated and scared, barely able to move at first. Stiles just missed a month of his life. He wishes that he could remember something from the coma, but he just can't, not even dreams. He's sure that people stayed with him and talked to him, holding his hand comfortingly. Stiles is also sure that it terrified his dad and all of his friends. What if Stiles hadn't woken up? What then? Would he have died? Well, he technically did die for a about minute, but that's another story in itself.
Stiles sighs, pushing those thoughts out of his head. There's no use thinking about that. What has happened can't be changed. Things could be a lot worse, Stiles knows that. What if he had gotten amnesia? That would be the absolute worst. He would hate to forget someone like his dad, Isaac, Malia or Scott. Stiles wouldn't even know what he was missing. His friends and family would have to deal with the pain of the amnesia on their own. He can't imagine forgetting Scott, the boy who he had a crush on for years and is now completely in love with him. It would be terrible. Stiles would lose some of his happiest and greatest memories. It's funny how almost all of his best memories are from the month he has been dating Scott. Stiles tries to think about more positive things, like being able to go home tomorrow. Stiles grins to himself. That will be an amazing moment, to finally walk out of this place. He is glad that Scott and his dad will be there with him for that. Stiles starts to relax and his breathing slows down. Eventually, he falls back into a more peaceful sleep.
