Prologue

Mitch's POV:

I quickly sit up drenched in sweat.

Nic turns on the small light, "What is it this time?"

"Just a bad dream." I reply.

Nic gets off her top bunk and grabs a glass from a secret hole in the wall.

She walks over to Jerome's bed, which now isn't separate from ours and puts a glass on his table.

Then she walks over and puts a glass on our table.

"Drink." She ordered.

I did as she said and I instantly felt better.

"Warm milk makes everyone happy, huh!" I laugh.

"Not everyone." She sighs.

"Something wrong?" I ask.

"Nah I'm Gucci." She smiles.

It's been hard living here.

I mean when one of us gets taken away randomly, then their back when we wake up again.

Nic always saves some food in case we get hungry.

I start to get into bed when Nic asks, "Can I sleep with you?"

I scoot over in my slightly large bed, "Sure!"

"Thanks Mitch. It's just I'm having a hard time." She says as she slides in(so many s's).

"Anything." I reply.

Jerome's POV:

I wake up to see a glass of milk on my table.

'Nic.' I thought.

I guzzle down the drink and see Mitch sitting on the floor.

"Where's Nic?" He jumps when I start talking.

"You okay?" I ask.

"Ya you just startled me!" He replies.

He points towards his bed, "She's still asleep."

"Might I ask why she is in your bed?" I ask.

"She couldn't sleep." He answers.

"Ah makes sense, she must have a hard time coping." I say sitting next to him.

"She's getting better, but slowly." He sighs.

We hear a scream as Nic jolts upward.

She's panting really hard, "Mitch! Jerome!"

We run to her side, she calms down.

"What happened?" We ask her.

She gasps, "You-you, you died."

"Well we didn't so get up, someone brought us clean clothes." I say.

"Mitch what about the kittens?" She asks.

"The girls probably figured we were gone so they must be taking care of them." I answer.

She lets out a sigh of relief.

"Well get changed and we see what's in store for us today." I fake smile.
