I was in math class when it happened.
Mrs. White was explaining how to do the problem on the board, and I was doodling in my notebook, not even bothering to pay attention to whatever she was teaching. "Willow!" I heard her snap from the front of the classroom. I looked up and glared at her. "Are you even paying attention?" she asked, a frown etched onto her lips. "No," I said bluntly, returning my attention to my doodle. "That's it! Get out!" she spat, shooing me out the door. I rolled my eyes before standing up, grabbing my stuff and leaving the classroom. I heard a few snickers and gasps from the back of the room, but ignored them as I stormed out.
I walked down the hallway to my locker when a sudden, sharp pain took over my head. I fell to the ground, grabbing at my hair to try and make it go away. When it lessened, I quickly stuffed my belongings into my locker and raced out of the school to my car. As fast and as carefully as I could due to the major head pains, I drove to the abandoned parking lot a block away from my school. There I turned off the car and laid back into my seat, drifting into unconciousness.
I woke up in my familiar bed in Hysteria. I wasted no time in staring at the familiar ceiling like I used to before jumping out of bed and racing to the front room, where a tall frame was pacing back and forth. He stopped when he heard me enter and looked at me. I was caught off guard when I saw who it was.
"Andy?" I asked in confirmation. I hadn't seen him in years, why is he over now? "Yeah, it's me. We can catch up later, I need to show you something," he said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me out the door. "Andy where the hell are we going?" I asked as he let go of my hand so he could run faster. "Just trust me...drop!" he commanded. We flattened ourselves to the ground and crawled to the cover of a shadow. "Andy..." I started, my mind swimming with questions, but he just shushed me and gestured to something over his shoulder. I lifted my head just in time to see a cloaked figure raise its staff and slam it into someone lying on the ground. I slapped a hand over my mouth to prevent a cry from escaping my mouth.
The cloaked figure leaned down and pressed a hand to the now dead person lying on the ground. The figure stood up and wrote something on the wall of the building on the side and disappeared into a cloud of black mist. Andy and I stayed where we were for a few more seconds before I ran out to the person on the ground. It was a man around the age of 20, but I didn't recognize him. Andy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to the wall behind me. I stood up and turned around, having to catch my scream for the second time today. On the wall in the man's blood was written "FEAR". "What does it mean?" I asked him. "I don't know. We're hoping that eventually they'll explain these attacks, and what FEAR actually is," he said. "Wait...has this happened before?" I asked Andy, feeling anger begin to bubble up inside me. "It was just twice before, and we figured they'd go away and you didn't need to be disturbed. But a third time..." his voice trailed off. I took one last look at the man at the ground and stormed off. "Willow!" Andy called after me. "I'm going to get Jinxx. Stay here with him," I instructed. Fortunately he obeyed, and I ran in the opposite direction to look for Jinxx.
