I stayed in an unused hut until night fell. I sighed, realizing I'd have to face Andy again, and stood up and walked towards the meeting area. When I got there, I scanned the crowd to see about ten people had gathered. Andy and Ashley were handing out black masks so we could avoid covering our faces in the black substance. I quickly put some of the tar on my body and deliberately avoided Andy, claiming my mask from Ashley. "He really didn't mean to," Ashley whispered to me. "You know how he gets when he's angry." I sighed and took my mask. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Andy watching me. He had a pitiful look on his face, like a puppy that just got kicked around. "Go talk to him," Ashley urged, gently nudging me towards Andy. I turned around and glared at Ashley before turning to face Andy.
Andy didn't give me any time to say anything before words began spilling out of his mouth. "I'm so sorry Willow, I'm just so worried that you'll get hurt or killed and I'm just stressed out because of everything and-" he rambled, but I cut him off by giving him a hug, which obviously took him by surprise. "I'm sorry. I know I should at least be more careful, but you have to trust me. Now, if I disappear for three days, then you should start to worry," I joked, making him chuckle.
As soon as a few more people came and got prepared, all of us began to make our way to FEAR. It took longer than the walk from Hysteria, but we got there fairly quickly. We dropped into a crawling position as a loud violin was heard, and the Matriarch's voice boomed across the desert.
"The rebels claim their brave new world is upon us. Do not be fooled by the premisis in which they lay their claim. It is false. And their uprising will not succeed. You will place your trust in FEAR...you must."
"Someone is feeding them information..." I whispered to Andy. "I think it's the FEAR shadow. Who knows how long it's been around unnoticed? It probably lurks around for information about an uprising," he whispered back. "We need better security then," I told him. "Yeah," he replied.
Andy turned around to everyone and motioned for us to move in on three. We had discussed that some of us would wait outside to collect everyone while the rest went in and split up into groups of two to open as many cell gates as we could before we got caught. He held up his fingers. "1...2...3!" We all ran towards the building, a few lagging behind us. We tried to stay silent, as it would increase our chances of getting everyone out. We all split once we were safely inside, and I ended up going with some boy who I didn't know. We took off running down a hallway to the left, passing many other hallways branching out from it. "They're down here!" he whisper screamed. I turned and ran down the hallway he was pointing towards. I came to the first cell, and people threw themselves against the door, screaming. I quietly shushed them, and they quieted down. I knelt down and examined the lock. I peered in through the keyhole, trying to figure out a way to get it off. I ended up using my pocket knife, jamming it up the keyhole, breaking the lock so I could open the door. "Be very quiet, and head towards the exit," I whispered to them. They nodded and obeyed. I did the same for a few others, until I reached the one Jake was in. "Willow!" he cried, his voice cracking due to lack of usage. "Shh, I'm going to get you out of here," I whispered to him. As I took out my pocket knife, I felt a blow to my side, and I was knocked to the ground. I looked up and saw a FEAR shadow looming over me. It raised it's staff to stab me, but instead grabbed at it's own head in terror. I turned to Jake and saw a look of hatred in his eyes, which were fixed intently on the shadow. The shadow let out a scream and burst into dust and ashes. I turned to Jake, wide-eyed. "You seriously couldn't have done that before?" I yelled. He shrugged. "Didn't know I could. But I had to try, I couldn't let him hurt you," he said. "Thanks for the effort," I said, standing up and breaking the lock.
"LEGION OF THE BLACK! RETREAT!!" Andy's voice called from somewhere in the building. I looked around my hall and realized the boy I was with had gotten everyone and had disappeared. "Let's go!" I called to Jake and everyone inside the cell. We all took off running towards the exit. We just managed to avoid the FEAR shadows, and ran out of the building and into the night. We stopped not even a second to locate where the rest were. When we found them, we began running in their direction.
We finally reached the ruins, having lost any FEAR shadow warriors that might have been following us, when we stopped running. Andy stood on his rock and let out a scream to silence everyone. "If you were in the attack to rescue the prisoners, stand over here," he said, gesturing to his left. "Anyone else, stand over here," he said, gesturing to his right. I watched as everyone shuffled around, trying to get to their correct sides. Ashley, Jinxx and CC jogged up to the front and stood by me. Ashley shot me a hopeful look, and I nodded, smiling. A smile etched itself onto his face as he scanned the crowd, looking for Jake.
Andy counted off the people on the left. "We returned with everyone that we went in with. Did we manage to get everyone taken captive?" he asked. Everyone looked around, and some people shook their head. Andy sighed. "When we go back in for attack, don't go near the cells. Distract anyone that's not Legion of the Black from going in, and we'll send a few people in on a rescue mission, because we'll burn down the building after we defeat everyone," he instructed. Everyone nodded solemnly. "Now, find a hut or your family and crash, it's been a long ass week," Andy said, dismissing us with a wave of his hand.
