Nathan sat at his desk. He was writing a letter to the neighbour farm. He had been the owner of this farm in three weeks now, but Charlotte his wife and himself had first now gotten all of there stuff brought here from London. He had bought the farm from an old woman there had become sick and no longer could run it. Charlotte and he had lived in London for a while, but they had needed a change. They had needed to get away. The door opened and Charlotte walked in. She had loosened her long red hair and it swung around her face and hang down at her back. She had taken of her dress and wore nothing else but her light silky robe. Nathan smiled at her. He could think of nothing more beautiful than his young wife. After his life in Camelot, Merlin had thought that he would never become happy again. He had walked around on the earth, bitter and alone. He was nothing more but a shadow of his former self. The world had change a lot and almost three hundred years later he had met Charlotte. He had worked as a doctor and psychologist in London. He had needed something to do with his life instead just sitting and thinking about the old times. The only thing he could was being a doctor, thanks to Gaius. He had followed the times new ways of doing things, but the principle and some of the herbs was still the same. Charlotte had been one of his patients when she had twisted one of her wrists. She had brought him back to life. He had called himself Nathan Appleby because the name Merlin didn't really fit in any longer. Charlotte was the only reason he could breathe and move freely. She was the only thing that could make him forget Arthur and all the others from Camelot. She was his world now and God he loved her. Charlotte walked over to him and leaned up against his desk. "Come to bed" Charlotte said. "I will soon" he answered. She didn't look happy about that answer. She made her puppy face and leaned a little closer to him over the desk. Nathan couldn't help but laugh. "I promise I come in a bit" he said still laughing. She smiled and nodded. Nathan looked down at the papers again, but he found it hard concentrating when his beautiful wife stood so close to him. When he didn't write anything Charlotte giggled. "Come to bed" she repeated. Nathan shook his head and put the pen away before standing up. How could she always get her will? He scratched there big dog, Toby, on the way out of the room. He followed Charlotte in her heels into the bed room.

When Nathan woke up the next day he was alone in the bed. Charlotte took the farm manage thing very serious. That was one of the things he loved about her. She was very passionate. He sighed and got up. He got some clothes on and walked down the stairs. Gwen, the maid, hurried over to him. "Breakfast"? She asked. Her blond hair was held up on her head and she wore her apron as always. "Yes, thanks" Nathan said and smiled at her. She hurried out to the kitchen. Nathan walked into the dining room and sat himself in front of the big wooden table. The house was designed in dark wood. The stairs, the furniture's, and the floor. The wall was in beige wallpaper and the windows sides were white. There stood things on the small tables, book shelves and dressers. Pictures that Charlotte had taken, vases and a lot of other things. Gwen came in with his breakfast. "Master" she said and nodded before she left the room. Nathan started eating. He had been given some bread with cheese, a bowl of porridge and a cup of water. He ate fast so he could get out to the fields and his wife.
He took his vest on and went out of the door. The sun was shining and the sky was blue with no clouds to see. A little breeze made the cornfield look like a golden sea. His hair was so long that it waved in front of his eyes. He walked down the little path. He could see the workers walk around in the fields. They were all wet from sweat. Nathan looked around and saw Charlotte stand a little away. He walked against her. She looked up and whipped her forehead. She had braided her hair and wore a brown cap. She had a brown skirt and a blue blouse on. The sun made her hair look like gold like the fields around them. "Good morning sleepy head" Charlotte said and kissed his cheek. "What are you doing"? He asked and swung his arms around her waist. "We are sampling the stones" she answered. "Sounds fun" Nathan said kissing her hair. "Not really. But I like it anyway" she said. "You are so beautiful" Nathan said. She smiled. "I need to get back to work" she said. Nathan sighed. "What can I do"? He asked. "You can write that letter that you didn't finish last night" she said. "Because my lovely wife distracted me" Nathan said. "I would never do that" Charlotte said and looked as innocent as possible. Nathan laughed. "Tell Gwen to make us a lunch basket that we take to the forest. I come home later and then we can have some us time" she said and kissed him. "Fine" he said and pulled her in to prolong the kiss. She laughed. "I see you later" she said and went back to pick the stones up. Nathan smiled and turned to go back. Some of the workers smiled and nodded at him. He walked slowly now. It was such a lovely whether and he didn't feel like sitting inside. When he entered his house he looked around. He could hear some sounds from the living room. He walked threw the little entrée and into one of the living rooms. Gwen stood and washed one of the small tables. "Gwen"? Nathan asked. She turned and smiled at him. "Mr. Appleby" she said. "Can you please make me and Charlotte a lunch basket"? He asked. "Of course. When does the mistress arrive"? Gwen asked. "At lunch time I would guess" he answered. "Of course" she said again. Nathan smiled and turned to go into his office. He sat down at his chair and looked at the almost finished letter. He sighed and began to write. Charlotte wanted to start some strawberry business and they needed some help to begin. The neighbour farm had some contacts that could be useful. It didn't take long. When he was done he looked out of the window. There was some time to lunch. Nathan stood up and walked over to his bookshelves. He lifted a vase and took a little silver key. He bent down and took the key into the top drawer's key hole. It said a little click. Nathan opened the drawer and took out a large old looking book. It was so wont that most of the sides was fallen out and laid loose in the book. Nathan carefully took the book over to his desk. He sat down and opened it. The sides were so scribbled that you almost couldn't read what it said. Nathan turned to one of the last pages. There stood no words on them yet. He took his pen and dipped it in his ink and looked out of the window. He could see the little river and the water pump. Gwen stood with her bucket and was on her way to fill it. There ran some chickens around her and notched in the ground for worms or other edible things. He looked down at his paper again and started writing. 'We have really started to fit in here. Charlotte is happy so I am also happy. She really likes to be farm manager and I love to watch her talk about all her plans. I like to be here to, but this place reminds me of him. Our bedroom looks so similar to his. I just have to get use to it I think. I think that he would like it here. I wished that he was here. I still miss him. But I think that I am happy. Charlotte makes me happy. She is my light. But please Arthur, come back'. Nathan sighed and closed the book. He had had this book since his days in Camelot. He had written about all his thought. The start of the book was quite angry. He had been so mad. He couldn't understand why he had to live alone. But then his words just became sad and broken. He hadn't really lived. But then it changed again when he had met Charlotte. He had still missed Arthur, but now he could look over that. He was happy. He wrote '1894' down in the corner and smiled, stood up and walked over to his book shelve again. He put the book back in the drawer and closed it. He locked it and sat the key back up under the vase. The door opened and Nathan jumped away from the book shelve. Charlotte laughed when she saw him. "What are you doing"? She asked. "Just cleaning a bit" he said. She lifted her eyebrows. "Lunch"? She asked still with her beautiful smile. Nathan nodded. They went out to the kitchen. Gwen hurried over to them. "The basket stands on the table mistress" she said. "Thank you Gwen" Charlotte said. Nathan took the basket in one hand and his wife in the other. They walked out of the house and down some meadows against the forest. "You don't miss London"? Nathan asked. "No" Charlotte said. "Or your work"? He asked. "No" she said again. "Are you sure"? He asked. She stopped and stood in front of him. "I love being here. I love this place. I love my new job and I love you" she said and kissed him. Nathan smiled into the kiss. She pulled away and they started walking again. "Did you write the letter"? Charlotte asked concerned. "Yes. It was my only job" Nathan said. "Great. When we get those contacts in London can we get some supplies to the strawberry fields. Then we get the rail way and we can send everything so much faster to London. It's going to be so good" Charlotte said happily. Nathan laughed. "Of course it will" he said. They stopped and sat them self under a big tree. "When can we begin to reap"? Nathan asked. "Soon" Charlotte said exited.
They sat under the tree in a long time. They ate there lunch and talked. Nathan sat leaned up against the tree with Charlottes head in his lap. He stroke her red hair away from her face. She had got a lot of freckles this summer. "I have failed to conceal again" she said. "You know there is no medical explanation. We just have to wait" Nathan said. "I know. It's just... I want your baby Nathan Appleby" she said with a little smile. Nathan leaned in and kissed her. "I know" he said. "I want your baby" she whispered again. Nathan smiled and leaned his head back. "We must get back" he said. Charlotte sighed. "Remember your strawberry fields" Nathan said teasing. Charlotte laughed. "You are a clever man" she said and stood up. They got there things and started walking back. Charlotte began to talk about her big farm plans again and Nathan smiled and nodded. Suddenly he froze. "What's wrong"? She asked confused. "I heard something"? He said slow and looked around. "We are in the middle of the forest. There are many sounds out here" she said, but she also looked around. "You're right" he said slow. They started to walk again. "No. There is something" Nathan said. His heart beat fast. "What is it"? Charlotte asked nervously. Nathan shook his head. "I don't know. It sounds like... Fighting"? He said. "What"! Charlotte asked frighten. "Can't you hear it"? He asked. Charlotte shook her head. Nathan sat the basket down and started walking against the sound. "Nathan be careful" she said. He started running. He was almost sure now. There were sounds. It sounded like someone was fighting with swords. The terrain became stonier. There were big cliffs and it became harder to run without falling. There were very narrow between the cliffs. The sword fighting sounds became louder. Suddenly the rocks began shaking. Nathan didn't stop. He turned around a corner and froze. Arthur stood a little away. He turned to Nathan. Suddenly the rocks started falling from the cliffs in front of Arthur there lifted his hand to Nathan with a desperate look in his face. "Merlin" he screamed before the rocks blocked the way.
