Four years later
"Come on Arwen. We are going to try one last time." Nathan said calmly.
He sat in the living room with his daughter who was stretched out on the floor. Arwen was four years old and the most beautiful thing in the world in her father's eyes. She had long, wild, dark brown hair, green eyes, pale skin and long eye lashes. She was gangly and tall and she was the happiest child ever.
"I don't want to practise more, daddy" she complained.
"Don't you want to learn it?" Nathan asked.
"Yes, but I also wants to go outside." she muttered.
"That's why I said that this would be the last time." Nathan said and tickled her.
Arwen laughed. "Fine, fine!" she screamed in happiness.
Nathan laughed and let her go. She sat up and took her small hands up to her mouth.
"You have to see the butterfly in your head." Nathan explained.
Arwen closed her eyes. He smiled when Charlotte walked into the room and looked at them practising. Arwen sighed and mumbled the words her dad had taught her. She opened her eyes. They were completely golden. The vase on the table behind Nathan flew up and directly into the opposite wall. Arwen turned quickly to her mum.
"I'm sorry, mummy!" she said with big eyes.
Charlotte laughed. "Don't worry. I'm only blaming your father." she said and walked over to kiss her daughter on the wild hair.
Nathan smiled and shook his head.
"Will you please get some strawberries from the field?" Charlotte asked and handed her daughter a basket d. Arwen jumped up.
"Of course, mum." she said. She turned to her dad. "I promise that I will learn, daddy." she said and smiled.
Nathan smiled back. "I know that you will. Just remember: no magic outside!"
Arwen nodded. Then she ran outside with the basket in her arms. Nathan stood up and walked over to his wife.
"Were you the same way?" she asked.
"She will be fine." Charlotte said.
Nathan nodded. "I know. Because she has you." he said.
"And you." Charlotte said and kissed him.
When they pulled apart Nathan went over to the window. Charlotte went with him. They could see Arwen run over the fields with her hair flying in the wind. They both smiled.
Arwen ran as fast as she could. She loved feeling the wind in her hair. She also felt that there was more in nature than you could see with the eye. She loved being outside. She waved at the workers that she passed, and finally she came to the strawberry fields. She loved those. They were so pretty and the strawberries tasted so good.
She started to pick the small red berries and placed them carefully in the basket. When she had filled the basket she started to go back.
It was a warm day, but she loved the sun so it was okay. She was tempted to use her magic to carry the basket home, but she knew that it could be dangerous if anyone found out about her powers. She had been able to move objects with her mind as long as she could remember. Her dad said that he also had been able to do that when he was younger. Her dad had been a great sorcerer. He had been able to do almost anything. She wanted to be as good as him, but it was hard. The thing she wanted the most to learn was to make a butterfly appear out of thin air. She had practised it the past weeks, but could still not do it.
"Oh God. Are you alright?"
Arwen looked up. A horse carriage stood only a few feet from her. A man with golden hair and blue eyes and a lady with brown eyes and brown hair were running towards her. A little boy, about Arwen's age or perhaps a little older, followed close behind. He had golden hair like his father and also blue eyes.
It was the pretty lady who had spoken. Arwen smiled and nodded. It actually didn't hurt so much. The grass on the hill was soft and had made the fall less hard. The man and the lady sat down on their knees beside her.
"Are you sure?" the man asked. "It looked like quite the fall."
"Yes I really am fine, thank you." Arwen said and stood up.
"What's your name?" the lady asked.
Arwen already liked her. She was kind.
"Arwen, mam." she said.
"My name is Guinevere and this is my husband Arthur. You can just call me Gwen. And this is Emmet. Our son." the lady said.
Arwen smiled to the man and the boy who both smiled back.
"Where are your parents?" Arthur asked.
"Home. I was out picking strawberries to my mum." Arwen told proudly, even though the berries now lay strewn across the side of the hill.
"That was very sweet of you, but isn't it the farm manager's fields?" Arthur asked.
Arwen nodded.
"My mum is the farm manager and my daddy helps her." Arwen told.
She looked over at the carriage. "Are you going to live here?" she asked.
"We have bought the neighbour farm from a Mr. Payne." Gwen told.
Arwen smiled happily. She had never liked Mr. Payne. He didn't like her daddy. She could not understand why. She thought that her dad was one of the sweetest people on this earth. He made her feel safe.
"Is that okay with you?" Arthur asked and laughed when he saw the little girls smiling face.
She nodded.
"May we take you home?" Gwen asked.
Arwen looked up at the hill. "I would like to, but I have to gather all the strawberries again." she said disappointed.
Arthur looked at Gwen who nodded.
"We can help you, and then we can drive you home." he suggested.
Emmet nodded eagerly. Arwen's little face lit up in a new smile.
"Really?" she asked.
The two grownups nodded and smiled at the little girl's reaction.
"Thank you!" she said.
They went all the way up the hill and gathered all the strawberries. Arthur carried the basket. Arwen looked at the man with thoughtful eyes.
"What?" Arthur asked and laughed at the girl's expression.
"You are much larger than my dad." she said.
Both Gwen and Arthur laughed. Emmet ran around finding the strawberries the others had missed. Arwen thought that it was very sweet of them to help her. She loved that they would move so close to her. Maybe she and Emmet could be friends.
When they were sure they had found all the strawberries they went back down to the road. Arthur lifted Arwen up so she could say hello to the two beautiful, white horses. They had also horses back home at the farm, but they were all brown or black. She had never seen a white horse before.
