Nathan couldn't breath. He tried to understand. Then suddenly he couldn't stand still. "Arthur" he mumbled. He ran over to the big rocks. "Arthur" he screamed. He tried to crawl over, but the rocks were too big. "Arthur" he screamed desperately again. He gave up crawling over and turned and ran back. He took another way so he got up on the high cliffs. He could see the big rocks under him, but no Arthur. "I don't understand" he mumbled and felt down at his knees. "Nathan"! Charlotte screamed. "Get away from the edge" she ran over to him and tried to pull him away. "No" he mumbled. "What are you doing" she asked desperately. "He was here" Nathan cried. "I saw him". Charlotte pulled him up and shook him. "You saw who"? She said trying to get eye contact. Nathan looked at her. "Try to breathe" she said. Nathan drew his eyes away from the ground beneath them. Charlotte finally got him pulled away from the edge. "What did just happen" she asked. Nathan tried to breathe normally. "I'm sorry" he said eyes blank with tears. "I just thought" he said. Charlotte pulled him in for a hug. He held her close. Buried his face at her shoulder. "I thought that I saw someone I once knew"? He said between his sobs. "Who"? She asked while stroking his back. "That doesn't matter" he said. He pulled himself away and dried his eyes. "Let's go home" she said a little nervous. Nathan nodded. They went back for the basket and then walked home. Either of them said anything the whole way.
When they got to the fields they stopped. "Are you coming"? Charlotte asked. "I have to do something first" Nathan said. Charlotte nodded and kissed his cheek. She turned and walked up to the cornfields. Nathan hurried into the house. He threw the basket in the kitchen and ran into his office. Gwen was dusting of on his window. "You can go" he said. Gwen looked surprised up, but she did as she was told. Nathan waited inpatient until she had left the room. Then he ran over, got the key and got the book up. He forgot how fragile it was and suddenly almost all of the sides were fallen out. "Come on" he mumbled irritated. When he got all the sides up he got over to the desk and sat himself down. He dipped his pen in the ink and wrote. "I saw him. I'm sure of it, but I don't know if it was something in my head. But I recognize it. It was that time I got wounded and he lay me on the ground before I got caught by Morgana. There were so many bandits. I made that rockslide so Arthur would be safe. When the rocks felt down he screamed my name. I thought it would be the last time I would see him that day. Why did it happen? Why did I see it today? Am I going mad? Nathan sighed and looked out of the window. He must be tired or something. There was no reason to panic. He wrote the date and then carefully closed the book. He put it back in the drawer and locked it. When he had also hid the key away he got himself outside. He went up the hills until he got to the cornfields. Charlotte sampled stones side by side with Agness, an older woman who worked for them. When Charlotte saw him she smiled nervously. He tried to smile back. "Mr. Appleby" a mans voice said. Nathan turned and saw Gibson. "I need to talk to you" he said. Nathan nodded. "Not here" old Gibson said. "Alright. Where then"? Nathan asked. Gibson pointed at a tree a little away. They went over there. Gibson looked a little guilty when he started talking: "it's about Mrs. Appleby" he said. "What about my wife"? Nathan asked. "She is a lovely woman, she really is, but she is a woman. Do you really think that she can run a farm"? He asked. Nathan looked over at the fields. Charlotte talked and laughed with Agness and some of the other workers. "Yes. I'm a sure that she can" he said proud. Gibson nodded. "I hope you're right" he said and turned to go back. "Gibson"! Nathan called. Gibson turned. "Be nice" he said. Gibson nodded and walked away. Nathan went back over to his wife. "Are we still collecting stones"? He asked. "Yes" Charlotte answered.
The sky had become more grey and the sun was hid away behind clouds. The workers were no longer warm and sweaty. The temperature was much nicer to work in. When the dark began to crawl over the fields they broke up. Charlotte and Nathan went arm in arm down against the big house. "I'm sorry if I scared you" he said. "You didn't" she said. He squeezed her arm. They walked in silence the rest of the way. Gwen opened the door when they came into the courtyard. "Dinners ready" she said. "Thank you" Charlotte said. She helped Nathan out of his vest and then they went into the dining room. Gwen had made beef pie and bread. "She's a good cook" Charlotte said while she sat down. Nathan nodded in agreement. He poured some bear up in there glasses. Charlotte talked while they ate. She was so exited over all he ideas. Nathan had it fine with it. He loved to hear at his wife, but right now he couldn't stop thinking about Arthur. For the first time, not even Charlotte could distract him. "Are you not hungry"? She asked. Nathan looked at her. "What"? He asked. "You are not eating" she said concerned. "Sorry. I was looking at you" he said. "Sweet, but a lie" she said laughing. "Sorry. Just tired" he said rubbing his eyes. He took his fork and started eating. The pie was good, but they had eaten a big lunch so he wasn't so hungry.
When they had eaten up they went to the bedroom. Charlotte sat her self on the little chair with all the flowers on in front of the mirror and started loosing up her braise. Nathan took of his clothes and changed to his night pants. When he was under his blanket Charlotte was still brushing her hair. He just sat and looked at her. Her beautiful hands held the brush that she was combing her long, wavy hair with. When she was done, she started to take her belt and blouse of. She looked up. "What are you doing"? She asked. "Looking at you" he said. She smiled. "You are tired. You need to sleep" she said. "I will, when you are laying here with me" he said. Charlotte laughed and made a little show of taking the rest of her clothes of. Nathan laughed. When she had gotten her night dress on she lay down beside him. "I love you" he said. "I know. Else I wouldn't have given you my special dance" she said laughing. "It was lovely" Nathan said smiling. Charlotte smiled and kissed him deeply. "I love you too" she whispered. Nathan turned off the light and they lay down. Charlotte snuggled in to him and he took his arms around her. "Good night beautiful" he whispered. "Good night" she whispered. Nathan sighed and pulled her in closer. "I'm so glad I have you" he whispered.
The next morning Nathan woke up while Charlotte was tying her corset. "Go back to sleep" she said laughing at his morning hair. "I'm going with you" he said. She sat her self on the bed beside him. "There is no need. Can you please do the paper work for the farm" she asked with her puppy eyes. "Of course" he said smiling. "Thank you" she said and kissed him. She stood up and took on her yellow skirt and blue blouse. When she had braised her hair and put on her cap she went for the door. "I see you later" she said. She left. Nathan could hear her jump down of the stairs. He smiled to himself and sat up. He also needed to get going. He stood up and looked out of the window. It looked to be another warm day. He took some black pants, a white shirt and a grey vest on. When he had combed his hair he went down stairs. When Gwen heard him she hurried out from the kitchen with his breakfast. "Good morning master" she said. He smiled at her. "Good morning Gwen. Will you please set the food in the living room"? He asked. "Of course" she said and went into the next room. Toby came running with his tongue out of his mouth. "Good morning boy" Nathan said and scratched the dog. Gwen came back and walked past him, back to the kitchen. Toby had lain down on the floor with his stomach up, so Nathan could scratch him. Nathan looked up when he smelt a strange smell from the kitchen. He left Toby and walked after the smell. Gwen stood in the kitchen table with a pot. She had lots of herbs and small bottles standing around her. The bubbling thing in the pot smelled awful. "What are you doing"? Nathan asked with his sleeve in front of his face. Gwen jumped at the sound of his voice. "I'm just making some medicine" she said while she held some powder in the pot that Nathan recognized as Bellis. "I did not know that you could do that" he said. Gwen concentrated on the pot. "I learned it from my mother" she said. Nathan nodded impressed. "Can I ask why you are making medicine" he said while looking over her shoulder. "It's just a good thing to have" she said. Nathan looked at all the bottles and herbs. Must of the things looked like the things he had used in Gaius's poisons. He smiled in the memory of the old man and left the kitchen. He couldn't stand the smell anymore. He went into the living room where all his books stood and his breakfast. He took out a random book and sat him self down in a comfortable chair to eat his breakfast. The porridge was cold, but it still tasted fine. The sun was shining threw the window, so Nathan moved the chair a little closer so he could feel the warm on his face. He sat his empty bowl and the book on the small table and looked out. The sun was shining in the little river and the water played with the light. Harriet and another of the young girls were walking on the path besides it. They smiled and waved when they saw him in the window. He waved back. When they were out of sight he stood up and walked into his office. He needed to take care of the paperwork.
