I want to express my gratitude in advance for those who have read/voted/commented on CHRYSALIS. Already 174 views after a little over a week! Thank you.
Rumours were spreading around school quicker than I could comprehend as soon as I got back. More and more students and teachers alike now knew about the recent killings and it soon got to the point where someone would just randomly get a panic attack in the middle of the hallway or classroom, just to be comforted by their friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, et cetera. It became quite frankly the only subject the entire school population would speak about.
I remained stoic about the subject, recalling what investigator Oglaz had requested of me at the station, and therefore never paid much attention to what others were saying, though I had to admit that it was a major pain whenever I heard the words 'killer', 'murder' and 'psychopath' repeat themselves over and over again each frickin' time I entered a room. Jesus Christ, how obnoxious! And to think, not even half of those people had even met the asshole face to face and still they let more words escape their mouths than Kylie Jenner!
The first hours of class passed me by much slower than I would have preferred it and as soon as lunch arrived, I sat down at my usual spot and waited for Victor to arrive. However, as more and more minutes began to fly away, I noticed that I had not actually seen him the entire day, not even by the locker. Sure, we never saw each other with the exception of out of class because we were separated during our sophomore year of high school, but we always made silent promises to meet whenever we could elsewhere at the campus. But where the hell was he?
Doubting he would come, thinking he was probably homesick or something, I began to eat and tried my best to ignore all the noise around me. It wasn't uncommon for me to sit alone during lunch whenever Victor was unavailable, but it still felt slightly odd. Whenever he was gone, he would usually call me or at least send me a text, but then again, Samantha confiscated my phone and took it to the station in case the killer decided to call again, so I wouldn't have been able to receive Victor's call either way. Man, what a hassle.
"You know my dad? He's a cop at the local station, and he just gave me the most shocking yet expecting news I could ever have imagined."
I found myself eavesdropping at one of the girls sitting on the table beside mine. Though there was a fair distance between us, not to mention a crowd of unstoppable jabbers in the cafeteria, I could still comprehend her words, though I pretended like I was still eating in order not to raise suspicions.
"What did he say?" Said one of the other girls sitting with her and leaned forth with interest.
"You know the Reaper's daughter?"
"That gothic bitch who's friends with that nerd. Yeah, what about her?"
"I heard that her guardian, the ice-cold investigator, actually reported that she had been attacked by the killer in her own home."
Her friends gasped, and I groaned to myself out of irritation.
"No way."
"Yes way, but she was so lying the entire time. They tried a blood sample they had found in their home from the 'killer', but it was just her own, and what else, the knife they found inside Eric Richards' corpse had her fingerprints on it."
Now they were all literally turning pale of terror.
"Does that mean she is somehow connected to the recent killings?""It wouldn't surprise me. I mean, the slut was bound to become like her psychopath of a father eventually. We all knew it, didn't we?"
I felt my sandwich begin to crumble as my hands tightened their grip on it. 'Stay calm, damn it! Stay calm, damn it!' I mentally cursed to myself.
