Tragedy. It can make you stronger, but it can also tear you limb from limb, leaving your existence almost obsolete. It can make you realize that life goes on, but it can also make you realize that you don't want life to go on. Tragedy penetrates deep to the soul, where it wreaks havoc among every emotion.
Two weeks after Easton arrived in Orlando, we all sat down to watch the news to keep up with the world. Suddenly, the usual newscast was interrupted by a breaking news case. "Big business mogul and richest man on earth has sadly died as a result of a brutal murder. Brayden Cantin was found stabbed to death in his office earlier this morning..." I only heard those words and the rest was drowned out by my screams and my brother's loud sobs. I screamed and cried until I couldn't move or hardly breathe anymore. Nikolai wrapped his arms tight around me as I shook violently. He tried to calm me but it didn't work. I sobbed for what felt like days, although it was only a couple of hours. My face became red and extremely puffy, I hid my face inside my jacket, still crying, but silently. "Baby, stop hiding." Nik insisted. I gasped for air. I felt like I was suffocating. My father, the man who loved and raised me was dead. And I hadn't seen him in months. Now he was gone. I felt my heart shatter. My chest was in so much pain as what had happened sunk into my mind. I went weak. I didn't move or talk. I didn't cry. I just stared.

Nikolai's POV
I glanced at Alethia, afraid to say anything. I could see her shutting her emotions down, locking out the pain she was feeling. I saw in her eyes her resignation to deny her father's sudden death. It pained me to see her in pain. I wanted to kill Andrew Alexander. He killed her father, I just knew it. I wouldn't address this yet, however. I knew she was still too fragile and shaken to speak of her father's murderer. "Alethia, let's go upstairs." I said gently, scooping her into my arms and proceeding to the staircase. Easton looked like someone had punched him repeatedly but did not protest as I took his sister. I laid her down on the bed and went to get tissues and water. I grabbed a blanket from the closet on my way and went back to the bed. I covered her shivering body and gave her the water and tissues. "Thank you." she whispered. I looked at her bloodshot eyes still filled with tears. "Alethia, I'll always take care of you. I am in love with you." I said. It was true. I was so in love with this girl that I couldn't see anything or anyone else. She was the center of my world and she stole my breath. I knew I wasn't supposed to fall in love while I was the leader of a gang.. but she was so worth it. She was worth everything.
A/N: This one is super short, apologies.
