I often introduce my poetry with an apology;
"I am sorry for showing you something that I am proud of,
for I know I do not deserve any amount of self love."
I have been denied any amount of self worth for
so long that I slip it on and off discreetly,
like a glove, yet still,
I secretly dream of the day my words will fly freely from my mouth,
like gorgeous confident doves.
