A week passed, Mak and Matthew hung out every evening at the diner. Then the next Monday Mak wasn't at school, Matthew brushed it off thinking the she was probably just sick. The she wasn't there Tuesday, Wednesday, then she wasn't there Thursday or Friday either. Matthew decided that he was going to stop by Mak's house Friday after school.
When Matthew got to Mak's house he knocked softly on the front door, no answer he knocked a little harder and the door opened. So Matthew opened the door and stepped inside. he was met by darkness and a small whimpering sound, he looked over to where a couch sat and saw Mak sitting there in the dark rapped in a blanket crying. He walked over to her quickly and immediately wrapping her in his arms causing her to wrap her small arms around his waist, he pulled her into his lap so she was straddling him and her face was in the crook of his neck. With this he whispered in her ear " Hey, what's wrong Mak?" She didn't answer only cried a little louder, causing Matthew to pull her closer hugging her tighter. "Hey, Mak look at me please." he said in a quiet voice and she did, although she couldn't meet his eyes she just looked at her hands. Mathew took his index finger and raised her chin so she was looking him in the eyes. " Hey, what's wrong?" he asked genuinely concerned. "Nothing" she replied. "Mak, something is clearly wrong what happened?" Mak went to pull away from him, but he held her in his lap he hugged her again "please, just talk to me." He said in a sad defeated tone. Then suddenly Mak was angry " FINE, if your really want to know my life is a mess. Everyone hates me and my family is fucking mess the list goes on, but I won't burden you with it so if you could please just leave me alone." She yelled. Matthew had this look like he knew what she was feeling and all he said was " No, I'm not leaving you alone Mak. I might know shit about your family but I know that not everyone hates you. So no I'm not leaving you." She went to push away from him again but again he just pulled her closer to him. She put her head back in the crook of his neck and hugged him. They stayed like that for a while till Mak had calmed down. She lifted her head so her lips were in line with his ear and whispered " I'm sorry." In a small voice.
" For what?" He asked not really sure what she meant. " I'm sorry for yelling at you and being a bitch." "It's ok. Do you want to talk about it?" He asked. Mak shook her head yes and then looked at her phone " shit! My moms going to be home soon. We can go to my room if it's ok with you." She stated " ok was Matthew said and Mak reluctantly got up from his grip and lead him up the stairs to her room. Her room was painted sea foam green, grey and white. Her room was slightly decorated with dark chocolate brown cabinets and bed, one wall had a few posters on it and the other wall had a ukulele and piano up against it. Matthew looked around and then asked her "Do you play?" With a small shake of her head she said " yeah." "Will you play for me?" He asked her. " I don't really play much anymore or for people." She said a little nervous. Matthew was fine with that. "So, what had you so upset?" He asked as Mak sat on a chair gesturing for him to sit down on her bed. " I promise I'll answer but do you mind if I change quickly?" Matthew shook his head no. Mak went to her cabinet and pulled out a shirt quickly pulling the one she had on off. Matthew watched out of the corner of his eye till he noticed something about Mak's hips, sides and stomach. He sat there in silence, Mak not thinking as she pulled on a crop top. Mak sat down and was ready to talk and she said " Ok whenever your ready we can start, but the only thing Matthew could focus on where the little scars that were marked her body
