~Now

"Wake up."

. . .

"Wake up Vienna!"

I opened my eyes slowly, trying to adjust to the light, I groaned.

"Leave me, alone dad." I snarled. I turned over on my bed and grabbed my blankets higher.

"I think you might've forgot...that it's a special day today..." he teasingly said. What...-

"It's your birthday darling! How can you forget that?" he cheered.

Another year of living.

"Do I get a cake?" I laughed. I slowly turn over, facing him. He's in his hunting attire.

"Hm," he rubbed his chin, "You get a kiss," he kisses me on the cheek, "and a gun, we're going hunting." he smiled.

"Dad! Why on my birthday...?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"You still need training Vienna...-"

"I've had enough training dad! For so many years, just give me a break." I raised my voice. His face became serious as I raised my voice, "Give you me a break? Vienna, you are now eighteen! You're an adult now, not everything is all fun and games, they're still looking for us, and you need to be ready for that day when they boom right in our place, all armed, while we're fooling around? You are still not ready, and you need to start practicing on your shooting and fighting." he sternly instructed.

I narrowed my eyes, I sat up from my bed. I ran my hand through my hair, "I feel like I'm ready! But, what if I'm still not actually ready...if I do something wrong, they could kill me with ease." I state.

He sighed loudly, pinching the bridge of his nose, "Worrying won't help, it will only get in your way..." he declared.

He patted my back, with a smile smeared on his face, "How about if we go find something to eat, hm? How does that sound, but first dress up."

I nodded, smiling at him slightly.

I looked at myself in the mirror, large coat, snow pants, big fur boots, a scarf covered my mouth and neck, and a bag behind my back, filled with my weapons. I nodded at myself in approval.

I walked out of the bathroom, and I see my dad sat on a chair in the kitchen. His head is down, whispering things which I can hardly hear. "Um, dad?" I muttered.

He looked up quickly, obviously startled from my presence. He widened his eyes and rubbed his mouth. "You ready?" he questioned.

"Mhm." I smiled. He stared at me, with worry. He pursed his lips, "Come over here Vienna." he demanded. I gulped, and I walked towards him.

He grabbed a piece of my hair, eyeing it carefully. "Your roots are showing," he uttered. He let the strand go.

"I need to get you more hair dye," he said. My hair color is originally a strawberry blonde, but I have to dye it a dark brown, so I won't get recognized easily.

"It's fine dad..." I complained.

He squinted his eyes, then quickly nodded, "Okay, shall we go hunting?" he laughed.

"We shall." I grinned.

~

"Do you see that deer over there?" my dad pointed across. We both are ducked behind a bush, looking for any animals to appear. I simply nodded, biting my lip.

"Try to shoot it, that will be our dinner for tonight." he challenged.

I raised my eyebrows, staring at him. "Go on, try it Vienna," he nudged my shoulder.
